Hi PSA,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The fact you didn't give up because of the stress is encouraging. There are days when I wonder whether my body will be able to keep up with the rest of me and allow me to do what I need to do. You know what I mean?
I was also told that I ought to consider a new profession, but after going through law school, the bar exam, etc and finally getting where I had worked so hard to be...there was no way I was going to just give up. I left my previous job because the demands and travel were taking a toll on me. I now work in business litigation. I'm not in court often and my schedule is very routine. The hours aren't terribly bad, reasonable billable requirements, and most importantly the partners and other associates are a great group of people. There is just a lot of mental stress which I know affects my IBS. I'm about 95% in control of my symptoms these days, for which I am very thankful. But, the anxiety over my IBS is still bad. I'm going back to therapy to deal with that, hopefully soon.
Btw, where do you practice? I'm in California.
