Diverticulosis

I just recently had a colonoscopy and endoscopy. The findings were that I have some "out pockets" in my colon called diverticulosis. He says it is very common and believes that IBS is the final "diagnosis"...due to no other abnormalities and all the biopsies were normal.

I was sent a letter from the doctor, so I didn't get to ask questions.....I have a follow up next month. For now he wants me to follow a high fiber diet and continue with my omeprozole, probiotics, etc., etc., bla bla bla....same stuff I've been doing.

Does anyone else here have diverticulosis?

I hope you have had your follow up with your Gastroenterologist by now. Diverticulosis can turn into Diverticulitis, which is a very serious disease. My DH did not watch his diet and this resulted in a perforated colon, causing horrific pain. He spent 2 weeks in the hospital, then had to wait 2 months to be well enough for a colon resection. We feel this surgery saved his life, but you better believe he is way more careful about eating right, including high fiber, low fat, plenty of water! Incidently, we have since met people who have had this surgery, they are in their 40's and early 50's, as was my husband.

I might also add that the doc completely suspects that my issues are a result of IBS, not anything else he found...which was just the diverticulosis and a small noncancerous polyp.
