I was asked to take Moviprep the day before my colonoscopy. I was advised to start drinking the fist sachet around 5pm, drink within a 1-2 hour time bracket and then have a 2 hour rest, then begin taking your second sachet around 8-9pm.
So here is how it went...
A few weeks before i had an MRI scan of my abdomen which then led to my colonoscopy, during my MRI i had to drink a litre of fluid, which was quite frankly disgusting in my opinion and I could hardly keep the stuff down, so when it came to drinking this other liquid i was to take for my bowel prep I instantly knew it was going to be exactly the same and be exactly the same struggle. The minute i began to mix the sachet into a large jug and got a whiff I knew it was the same *boohoo*
So I then began to drink it... The first cup is probably the easiest and then it all goes downhill from there, the taste really isn't the best, its a salty/sweet lemon flavour which sticks around on your tongue afterwards. I was 2 cups down and was really struggling and could already feel my tummy starting to gurgle and slosh around and i still had another 2 cups left of the first litre. At this point i really did have to force it down. Luckily enough my mum was there for support and suggested i mix it with something to help with the taste, and i am so so glad i did. So my amazing mum went to the shop and returned with peppermint cordial and can i just say it helped LOADS! So if you are due to take this awful Moviprep then i strongly advise you to mix it with a bit of peppermint cordial, the more the better. So after i had tackled my first litre I then looked at the other jug i was due to drink and died a little inside. As i began drinking my next litre i was rather nauseous and really didn't feel the best, which unfortunately led me to being sick. After that I really couldn't manage the second litre and was so scared i would mess it all up and worried i hadn't drank enough for it to do its 'thing'
So physically exhausted from all the heaving and vomming i decided to get some shut eye and go from there, by 2:30am i was legging it to the bathroom as the Moviprep was well and truly moving. I then went again at 3:00am, 4:00am and 6:00am. My appointment was at 8:30am so i was up at 7:00am and unfortunately still going to the loo. So me and my mum made our way to the hospital, once there i was shown to my lovely room with en suite (thank the lord) and i got into my extremely sexy gown and lay on my bed watching TV (Jezza Kyle) and nipping to the loo every so often. Around 11:00am a lovely nurse came to take me for my colonoscopy. I was taken to another room where there was around 6 people waiting for me which was rather daunting but luckily they were all lovely and instantly made me feel at ease. I was then asked to jump up onto the table and had oxygen attached, my heart rate and blood pressure monitored and a cannula inserted into my hand where they would inject the pain killers and sedation. After the pain killers and sedation had been injected i was then asked to role onto my side and had my hilarious looking knicks pulled down, by this point i was feeling rather dopey and away with the fairies. I didn't feel a thing when the camera was inserted which was good but after a while i started to come round again and felt pretty normal, thats when the pain began, every so often when they would turn a corner i would get an excruciating pain in my stomach which sometimes made me cry out in pain and grip the nurses hand rather tightly (poor love) the pain would only last for a couple of seconds though even though it did feel about a couple of minutes. My doctor then told me it was because he was having to turn corners and thats what was causing the pain, he then showed me what was happening on the screen and i couldn't believe i was seeing my insides, quite strange really but definitely something to look at! After that, and a few more stabs of pain and a few biopsy's taken, which was a very strange sensation but did not hurt, i was done and dusted! The camera making its way back out did not hurt at all and was out in seconds, they then injected some buscopan into my cannula for the tummy cramps. I was then told that i would be full of air and be very windy, so if i needed to pump i should swallow my pride and do it otherwise i would be in some discomfort. I was then wheeled into recovery where the same lovely nurse that held my hand came in and sat and talked to me while i recovered (trumped myself into oblivion) once they were satisfied, i was then taken back to my room and had the food brought to me i had ordered before hand. It was like i hadn't eaten for weeks and i wolfed the lot down! After I had then finished that I got dressed, had my pulse and blood pressure checked again and my cannula removed and i was good to go! Once i got home i was still nipping to the loo but i had no pain so i could completely relax.
So as you can see this is a very honest post but at least you have an idea then for what's to come! Obviously some will be completely different to others and may breeze through the whole thing but, unfortunately i didn't.
Hope this helps!
