I've had two flex sigs jt80. They're not so bad. You do have to use enema's beforehand because your doctor needs to see the lining of the colon in this area. You are not sedated so you can drive yourself to the office/hospital. They dilate you and insert a rectal speculum, for the exam. My two flex sigs didn't last longer than 10 minutes each. This isn't a painful procedure, but I would say it's slightly uncomfortable (feeling the speculum inside and the surgeon looking around, etc.). Before you know it though, it's over and you can get dressed and head for home. Or work. It's not like you're sedated, groggy, etc. Quite the opposite.
It's a common opinion among bowel issues people, like us, that this is the shorter version of a colonoscopy since a flex sig only examines the lower colon. But it is still a very beneficial test if this is what your doctor is recommending.
Good luck.
