Good evening everyone. The reason for the post is I'm extremely worried. In June last year I spent a week in hospital. I started with severe diahorrea, psssing blood and severe dehydration. I only remember being in the hospital ward after about 15hrs. I had a sigmoidoscopy and subsequently a colonoscopy. They took many bloods and anaylised my stools. The doctor said the colonoscopy showed mild inflammation. They thought it was an infection as the markers in the blood were decreasing. They reassured me it didn't present as cancer but could be an inflammatory bowel problem. I was discharged and had an outpatient appointment with a gastroenterologist. I had a copper urine test and that was clear. The gastroenterologist said it could be an IBD. He didn't want to put me on any medication but told me to monitor it and if any change to see my GP.
The last 8 weeks I've had lower right abdominal pain. My stomach is cramping and whenever I go the toilet, it leaves my insides like they have been ripped out. I eat and my stomach cramps, gurgles and I've got lots of wind. Also got an itchy anus. I've been my GP, had bloods taken. They were almost perfect. They don't think it's appendicitis. I've told my GP that I'm extremely worried about cancer. I can sometimes go to the loo twice in a morning and then not again for 48hrs. I'm trying to be rationale about things but I'm so frightened.
She suggested we do a PFOB3 stool blood test. I've just taken them to the surgery.
I've never officially been diagnosed with IBS but have had problems with acid and been on lansoprazole for about 3 years.
Should I be so worried? Cancer is my worst fear. How can I calm myself down? My mind is off on a journey, thoughts lead to thoughts of bowel/colon cancer. My GP doesn't seem to think it's anything sinister. I'm 49.. 50 in October this year
