Hello Everyone, Let me explain what i have been through the last 2 months.
Background : So I started smoking marijuana (no cigs), when I was 16 (2010), became a daily habit by 18. I am now a 23yo male. I no longer enjoy smoking and I was having problems with sleep/anxiety, so i decided to quit (June 11, 2017). I had quit before, for a few weeks once and a month once, and my normal withdraw symptoms included a few days of insomnia, increased appetite, one or two loose stools (max). But after a week or so i would find better sleep and everything would go back to normal. (besides my urges to smoke). I have always considered by digestion to be strong, almost never had even a stomach ache, diarrhea was super uncommon. I could eat a bowl of nails. 1-2 bowl movements a day.
After my decision to quit, the first couple days were rough, for a day or two i had a sore throat and mild fever, but then I was feeling really good! Motivated, and working out really hard and trying to pack on muscle. about
a week later (June 20, 2017), I noticed a loose stool, but still felt 100%. I started to have excessive gas that smelled awful and occasional rumbles. The loose stools continued but I was sill going 1-2x a day. Then (~June 25) I stated to wake up and have to hit the bathroom with mushy D, And i would go about
2-3 times in the first 30 min of waking up. Followed by an additional 1-2 episodes throughout the day. I continued to have 4-6 BM of D for about
5 days (no blood, some mucus) and then they subsided to about
2-3. I decided to go to a gastro. he took blood tests and a stool sample. Blood- All normal. Stool - Increased inflammation. At this point it was July 9 and i smoked again, my stools appeared more formed the next day but still going about
2-3x. I stated to have bad cramps in my lower abdomen, right above my pelvis, almost throughout the entire day. I began smoking occasionally but i still felt bad. I had a colonoscopy on July 21 and the doctor, whom is young but Ivy, told me 99% of my colon was normal, including the histology of my rectum and end of small bowl. He said i have a very mild Acute self limited colitis a little past rectum in the sigmoid. He was almost positive I had a bacterial infection and am experiencing PI-IBS.
Since the colonoscopy I have been really anxious and depressed, thinking somehow my relapse skewed the colonoscopy results. Cant sleep, sweat at night. I continued to smoke the last couple weeks, But still had awful cramping and 1-3 Formed but uncomfortable BM a day. Passing gas is also really weird. Its like i have a huge fart coming on but I have to force out a small poof that feels like i might crap my pants. I feel fatigued, feel like a have a fever sometimes, and am thinking about
it 24/7. I currently am committed to quitting once again. I can't stop feeling me quitting the first time around caused it, since i didn't really experience any other symptoms of an infection.
Questions:
Should I trust my gastro who almost certainly ruled out Chrons or UC and labled it PI iBS?
Should I get a second Opinion?
Do you think the life change/stress of working out had anything to do with it? If so, why inflammation?
If it is PI-IBS will it resolve like my gastro said? (its been almost 2 months, and there have been improvements since the 4-6x for sure)
Sorry for the long post, hopefully its clear.
