IBSD- Fluid in pouch of douglas?

Hi i have ibs-d for the past 12 months, my ultra sound shows fluid in the pouch of douglas. Has anyone had these results before? my doc tells me its a small amount of fluid & not much to worry about, but im thinking maybe that whats causing the swelling in my lower left tummy?

I doubt that a small amount of fluid in the rectouterine pouch (the pouch of Douglas) would cause swelling if it's only a small amount. Did your doc say it could be the culprit? Is it only in the left side that you feel pain?

Have you had an ectopic pregnancy before?

Hi Sarita,

Doc's didnt seem that worried about the fluid, they thought it could cause endometrosis around the bowl, i have since been checked for endo & its all clear. As far as i know i have never fallen pregnant? I only ever feel pain in the lower left side, near my hip bone. The swelling it very visible. When ever a doc sees it, their first thought is a growth or cyst but all scans show nothing.

That is bizarre that you have such localized swelling but nothing shows up on a scan other than the small amount of fluid in the pouch of Douglas. That is very good news that you don't have endometriosis, that is a very painful and chronic condition. If you're experiencing LLQ pain and diarrhea, you might want to think about getting a colonoscopy. It could be something like diverticulitis (inflammation in pockets of the lower part of the intestine). Have you seen a GI specialist?

Hi Sarita,

Ive had Colonoscopy, CT Scan, Ultra sounds, Internal Ultra sounds, numerous stool tests & stain tests for parasites, blood tests, Pill Camera. Everything seems normal except for the yeast cells in the stool & fluid in the pouch of douglas.

I have recently had a blood test done for food intollerence / Allery with Imupro300. Results were very interesting. Seems i have intollerences to over 30 foods. I was eating a small dose of each of these foods almost everyday. Since getting my results & eating a strict rotation diet, i am please to say i have not had D for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!  i can hardly believe it, sometimes i feel like its a dream & im going to wake up the next day & be sick. But so far i feel fantastic.

Fingers crossed i continue to feel well
