Discoid Lupus and scalp lesions

I was diagnosed with discoid lupus about 3 years ago. The Iesions on my scalp are VERY red and painful. I have had dramatic hair loss. What can I do?

I have psoriasis on my scalp and have sores. I use Denerex shampoo to ease the sores have almost vanished. Have you tried a medicated shampoo?

No I haven't. The spots where the sores are, I'm completely bald. Scalp painful to touch. Very red and raw looking. I'm gonna try the Denerex Shampoo.

Are you taking any medications to control your disease? I believe it has to be treated systemically, not just topically.

I was taking plaquenil until I got pregnant. I delivered in May 2015 and haven't restarted the medications. It's time for a followup appointment. I can feel the changes.

I have DLE as well. Clobetesol will help. It is a very potent topical steroid. It cleared my scalp lesions. The only way to keep it at bay is sun avoidance. Wear a wide brimmed hat at all times when outside.

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum, but I've had systemic lupus since 1988. I've also been experiencing hair loss and it's very traumatic. I have sores on my scalp and just recently the dr. gave me a liquid clobetesol to put on my scalp. It has really helped! I've tried the Nioxin shampoos and conditioners, and I take biotin everyday but my hair continues to fall out... I will try folic acid. I think I also have discoid lupus because I have so many things happening to my skin, but the dr. still says I have systemic lupus. Does anyone know if you can have both?
