Hi there! A flare is not something that can not be predicted. There are some people who have flares that last from a few days to months and then there are other people who have a flare for years. I have personally been in a flare since I was diagnosed in 2007.
You will learn what triggers a flare for you and should try to avoid those things. Some common ones are sunlight, stress, and lack of sleep!

Tibby, you have asked a question that we all want answered, but as Amy said, there is not a pattern for flares. I was sick for 6 years and then slowly came out of it. During the 6 years my health would go up and down & I called those flares. The better I take care of myself, the more rest I get, the better I eat, and the more I pace myself and don't get worn out, the better I feel.
Over time, you'll figure out what's best for your body. Good luck, and hang around.

6 weeks ago, and i am so scared and confused. my hands feel like they are double their normal size and the burning, deep pain is like something constantly reminding you of every sin you must of ever committed.. and triggers?... well it is 1 am, so i obvious ly have a sleeping problem lately.... and life equals stress.. so forget throwing that trigger in the trash.. so i need help. there, i said it. i need someone to help me understand what is happening to me.. can someome explain to me about
their experiences with lupus and flares and pain and am i going to have to give up my career? sos.
