Hello all, it’s late an I’m not sleeping.....again🙁
So I thought I’d chat to someone who understands.
Something interesting happened this weekend and I thought I would share.
I met two people, in person, who are just like me. Auto-immune over-lap.
One woman I met through our business, we do construction, they had called for some help.
My husband went to visit them about the job required.
Turns out the wife was newly diagnosed lupus. She is my age. Eventually we met, my husband introduced me and told me “this is Allison, she was just diagnosed with lupus”. Well our eyes met and there was an awkward moment as I processed how to react, instantly I just walked down the steps and hugged her. What else could I do? I was sad for her, and proud of her for the battle I know she had endured and would endure. She smiled and hugged me right back and we talked for over an hour. It was refreshing to speak to someone in person who could finish my sentences and visa versa.
The second, also a woman, was working a bakery in a small town near us. I had said I would love to work in a bakery...she quickly said....no you wouldn’t.....it is hard, heavy and long hours.
I said that would not do for me unfortunately because I had lupus. She stopped, looked at me and said “me too”. Again that meeting of the eyes and soul for a moment. I have to say she looked tired and her cheeks were rosey. We didn’t talk much but wished her well, as I wondered what on earth she was doing there working 9&10 hour days in the heat and carrying and lifting all the heavy pans and equipment everyday.
So anyway I thought I would ask you all, how many “real-time” people do you know?
I know of just one more young woman,I met her a while ago. Her husband used to work for us. Once we went to a wedding that they also attended and she had lots of questions, being much younger and diagnosed much more recently.
So that’s three for me...how about you?
Thanks, goodnight, sleep well. Tuffymason
