I was wondering if any of you have had a tubal ligation. I am seriously considering one and I have searched everywhere to see if lupus patients have increased risks, but I have found very little research on this. Thanks for your input!

Paula, I had one 19 years ago, before I had full blown lupus. I suspected that I had lupus but it would come and go. The surgery was outpatient and it was a piece of cake. I'll be surprised if your rheumy advises against it. It would have to be easier on your body than having an unplanned pregnancy right now. I had thyroid cancer when I had my tubal ligation, but didn't know it. And the surgery still went well. I hope you can get some good advice from your rheumy.

Hi. I had a tubal ligation last October. I don't have Lupus, but I do have UCTD/RA. Wasn't that bad at all. I did have a brief joint flare directly after the surgery. I think it may have had something to do with the anesthesia, though. Someone told me in the future that I can ask for IV prednisone prior to the surgery and that helps a whole lot. I suppose this joint flare is common in AI patients (who have arthritis) after surgery. The surgery, itself, was nothing. I recovered in just a few days; not like when I had a c-section 4 years ago--that took 3 weeks to recover from.
Best of luck to you,
El

Hi Paula, I had one done geesh 26 years ago? They took my appendix out at the same time. which made it much harder and longer for me to heal. They said that's what they do since it's right there in the way and serves no purpose. I don't know if they still do that or not. I wasn't sick back than though. However two years later I had cervical cancer so they had to do a hysterectomy anyway! Good luck with your discision.

Hi Paula,
I had mine almost 4yrs ago, everything was fine, though recently have problems with one of the clips-still waiting on what they plan to do.
The incision is very small and is like a laperoscopy, you will be sore for a few days ,but will be fine after that. Find out which procedure they have planned for you and then decide. Best of luck! Let us know how you make out. crystal

I have lupus, I've been diagnosed for about
2 years now.. after 4 miscarriages my doctor suggested I get my tubes tied. Since then, I have had the worst periods of my life. Yesterday I was forced to go home at 9 am from work due to the pains being as bad as labor pains. I would STRONGLY advise taking another route if at all possible! I know not every experience is the same, but mine has been a nightmare. My bleeding has been extremely heavy (soaking through 2 super tampons within 3 hours) and the pain before I even start is bad.. I was sick with diarrhea for an entire day before my period even started.. And now I have random bruises on my leg popping up (maybe it's not related, but I have a feeling it is.) I've had my tubes tied for about
5 months now and each month it seems to get worse!

Hi, I had my tubes tied after the c-section of my last baby. That was 8 years ago. It was before I had lupus. It was my 3rd c-section so the recovery was a little more difficult but I don't think it had anything to do with the tubal ligation . I haven't had any problems with it. Best wishes!
