knee pain

Hi All,

  So I have been x-rayed and had an MRI on my swollen knees.  The result is arthritis.  The ortho and physical therapist say it could be lyme induced.  What is the opinion out there on arthritis and lyme?  I have been being treated since August and the knee pain continued on and off.  What has helped the most is the physical therapy. 

I have tried googling info on lyme induced arthritis and have come up with conflicting (surprise) opinions. 

Your thoughts and ideas are much appreciated.

I feel for you too! I had severe proplems and real pain with my right knee, and i got a whole range of diagnosis from meniscus to pulled ligaments to arthritis - reason unknown; I was not diagnosed with lyme that time. My knee was swollen sometimes, sometimes there was somehow blood in the joint capsule (was all blue); meds finally helped after about 10 months, I was not taking abx but something for (chronic) joint problems and infections; antiphlogistic creams did not really work for me (my skin reacted very allergic to most of them) but I had real good success with putting a few drops of nativ organic grown lavender oil on my knee before sleeping (the pain often kept me from falling asleep); this really helped me.
I got rid of all this completely - so there is really hope, also for you !!!!!! dorit

Thanks so much for the info, I went to the science daily site and printed the info.  Also, the recommendations to do cat's claw and using organic lavender oil is a great idea.  I swallow enough abx that I do not want to start using celebrex if there is something natural that I can use instead.  As I said previously, the abx have not helped the knee pain one bit.  Physical therapy did however.

Here are my thoughts on the knee pain thing: Approximately 6 months ago or so, I "blew my knee out". Now, having been sick for 20 years now, at the age of 50 I walk and act like I am 90 most of the time so I know I did nothing to make this happen. I had been having a badly swollen knee for some time before this happened, but didn't know why. I went to an orthopedic doctor and could hardly get to and into his office, the pain was so severe. I had an MRI done and it showed torn cartilidge, torn meniscus, a cyst in my knee cap, and several other things that were "severe".  He wanted to do surgery but I opted to not do that at the time and I am glad I didn't. I was afraid of infections, because I knew my immune system was on overload but I didn't know why. Months later I found out that I have late stage chronic lyme and I have had this for 20+ years and didn't know it. I researched the relation between the lyme and the knee thing, and I found that the knee "blowout" is a very telling symptom of Lyme disease and the fact that it has been in an active state for a long time. The Infectious disease doctor said my knee convinced him more that I have Lyme than my bloodwork did, which shows a lot of strong positives. So, I would say, yes, your knee problems are due to Lyme and/or co-infections, because I have those too. Hope this helps.
