I contacted a LD doctor who is no longer taking LD patients. HE is an INFECTIOUS DISEASE doc. If I can just get in the door and talk to this guy, I believe he will treat me. What can I say is wrong when they ask me why I need an appointment?? How do I manipulate the situation?? Please help me out. thanks, amey

i dont know what to say, but i got my appointment with my ID from my PCP, he refered me to him. witch by the way was of no help to me. as my ID does not belive in lyme.

When I called my PCP (who tested me, but could not treat me), I did not have to bend any truth. I said that I had chronic fatigue and pain and recurring fevers. Got me right in.

Get in to see him first.  Then either mention lyme or let him come to his own conclusions.

Hmmm, that's a tough one, because you need to respect the doctor's wishes as well.

If you haven't had any testing done, my advice would be just to present your symptoms to him without suggesting any possible diagnosis.

He obviously knows about Lyme, since he used to treat it, so if you have Lyme, at the worst, he will probably know of another doctor who can help you.

If you have had testing or a diagnosis of Lyme disease, I wouldn't try to hide it- instead I would suggest you say you have tested positive for Lyme, and are looking for a second opinion.

I would hope that even if he refuses to treat you for Lyme, he will at least see you to give a second opinion and (as above) recommend a different doctor.

If he does treat you, you will be working with him for a long time. So you want to start your relationship off on the right foot- which means not trying to trick him into seeing you.

Make-up any Infectious disease.... and once your alone in the room with him/her..... just say "I have Lyme Disease, I'm desparate. Cany you, will you help me?

you are all awesome. I am getting in that door. He can then deny me if he wants to. I just want oral abx. thats all. I see my orthopedic doc. on the 16th and if he tells me there is nothing structurally wrong with my arm, i am going to the ID doc. I am debilitated and need help. I am taking all this advice and getting in that door. thanks and I will let you know how it goes. All he can say is no, right? thanks, amey

Amey, there has to be a reason this doctor is no longer treating Lyme patients.  Where did you get his name?

I recommend seeing a Lyme doctor.   This will likely save time and aggravation in the long run.  In my opinion, you need to see a doctor you can be completley honest with.

I know this sounds terrible but I think you should say whatever it is you need to in order to get treatment. The problem is that non-llmd's do not believe in long-term treatment which is what's usually needed. From what I've been told many non-llmd's say they treat lyme and then only treat for 30 days. I hope this isn't the case with the doctor you want to see. Good luck.

Stutterbug, I think I misread your post and apologize if the doc you are referring to is a llmd. I should not be posting when my brain fog gets this bad. lol

i got into my LLMD by saying i'm dying!

i got into my derm by saying i have moles that are bleeding.

btw, i was a new patient and they both had 3+ month waiting lists for newbies.. i was in within a week of both of them... you need peace of mind..

I know some people that are being treated by this guy. I guess he is just tired of dealing with the insurance companies. I will be making a decision as to what I need to do at the end of next week. So, we will see.

I am suspicious. Why would he quit? Maybe he doesn't believe in long-term treatment or thinks we are all delusional.

He is tired of fighting with insurance companies to pay for IV treatment. This is not the first doctor that I have come acrossed that is no longer taking anymore LD patients. These doctors are overwhelmed by the amount of patients that run to them because they seem to know something about LD.
