Testing this week for co-infections

Can anyone tell me if you must be off antibiotics to be tested for co-infections? LLMD did not mention it so I assume it doesn't matter. Appreciate any input. Bev

I know as for me, I didn't test pos. for any TBI's until after 1 full yr of abx. - and now it doesn't matter what abx I'm on - I keep coming up pos. for LD, RMSF, & Masters'.

I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge will post a reply soon!!!

I just gave blood for Igenex co infections testing and asked my doc if it mattered I have been on abx for 6 years and he said. No?
I have heard it can through other peoples posts though and that it can affect the test in some way? But I sure do not know more details..? I know I asked and was told no but this one Doctor. .. ??
I wish I knew for sure.

I don't know but I can tell you that the labs only test for 3 strains of bartonella and there are over 30, so a negative test is meaningless. Go by symptoms. If you have lyme, you probably have at least one other infection.

Anitbiotics will not interfere with Coinfection testing as these tests are looking at antibodu responses. Lyme Western Blot that detects spirochete proteins and these can be altered by antibiotics.

Different people say different things. My Dr. doesn't even take me off antibiotics for a regular Lyme Western Blot. So I had a blood test (today, actually) on antibiotics. It was for babesia (since my symptoms are borderline for that), and a re-do of the IgM Western Blot for Lyme (hoping for a more positive result than my first test).

I know a negative doesn't really mean anything, but a positive does, and that is why I am doing the testing.
