I just hope I can make someone laugh and lighten your mood a little with my 2 stories. Nothing interesting ever happens to me, so 2 in 2 days? Good stuff:)

So, I go for a sleep study last night because I am pretty sure I have sleep apnea. I have to go through the ER entrance, tell them I am there, and then wait for the sleep study people to come and get me. So, the door to the waiting room opens and this guy in scrubs walks in and I'm thinking to myself "please don't call my name, please don't call my name..." when, low and behold, he calls my name. Dude was creepy! Long dirty hair, kind of pulled back in a ponytail, but not neatly at all. He smelled like smoke and coffee and had the shakes REAL bad. He asked how I was doing and I said, "tired..but that is probably a good thing. How are you?" He says, "Well, I would be better if I wasn't at work." So, it was silent. Then, on the elevator ride up, he proceeds to tell me that his dream job is to be a medicinal marijuana tester. MMMhhmmm. Put me right at ease. So, for the next hour and a half he is touching me to hook me up to all of these wires and i kept trying to make conversation, but he wasn't a talker. It was very akward and weird, and I was afraid to go to sleep! I mean, here I am going for a sleep study and I am afraid to sleep because dude is creepin me out! So, anyway, I lay down, he turns off the lights, leaves the room and proceeds to crank his t.v up. It was so loud it woke me up all night. Very weird.

K, so here is the funny one. I am sitting on my computer 20 minutes ago. It was 8:00pm and someone knocks on my door. No one EVER comes out here. I kinda live in the middle of nowhere. So, I go the door thinking it is  my sister because she lives beside me. It is, probably in his 60's or 70's selling sausage. Yep. Swear it. Selling sausage door to door at 8pm. Is there a full moon?

LOL alone!! So how could you complete a sleep study if you barely slept? I would have walked right up to him and told him to turn the darn TV down...NOW!!

I really wanted to! But, the guy scared me:) I can't imagine they got very reliable results because I didn't freakin sleep! Crazy!

Lol those are pretty funny.  OMG about the guy in the Sleep Disorders place.  I'm sorry but if he asked me how I was doing,  I think my answer would have been, "apparently better than you?!"  LOL sigh.  Where do they find these people.

I would be surprised if anyone showed up at my door trying to sell something right now--we are getting hammered with snow.

I think the door to door sausage salesman is funnnier than the guy at the hospital. I mean, who is their right mind is going to buy sausage from a totol stranger!! Funny~

Right? I wouldn't buy sausage from someone going to door to door in the first place, but from a MAN and at night? Extra creepy!

I can't sleep in strange places much less with wires attached to me. And it would be even worse with a weirdo watching me with the TV blaring. I would have gotten up, pulled the wires off and gone home. I went to see a sleep specialist once and he told me to take ambien for the rest of my life. After about two weeks I turned into a maniac. Later I found out I just had low progesterone - changed my whole life.
I hope you find out what is wrong.

I just dont get who would let a little old fellow go around at night alone like that- shoot someone might take all his money AND his sausage! He must have been a loner cause i cant think of any little old lady that would let her husband go door to door at night...or maybe i'm just too old fashioned! LOL :)

You are both right. I wouldn't let my little old man go out at night like that (if I had a little old man)
Thanks Nefferdun! I haven't heard yet. He said it would take like a week or something. I dunno why, but whatever. But, my psychiatrist is the one who ordered the test for me, and I do not like her office staff at all. They like to not call when they are supposed to...we shall see!

a&s - what an awful sleep study experience. The first one I went to, even though there were several operators working at the clinic and the gentleman assigned to me seemed normal, I couldn't sleep much because to do so requires a lot of trust in a complete stranger. They come in to check on you and they hook you up, while you sleep, to a cpap machine if they think you need it. So messing with you while you are sleeping is part of their job. Being somewhat paranoid after years of working in a criminal law office, I was fearful of the allure such a job would have to any pervert who realized that working in a sleep clinic with drugged patients could offer a whole world of unfettered opportunity. I can't imagine closing my eyes at all if it had been the guy you describe!

that is quite a good point Rose; i hope i don't ever need to do a sleep study...but shouldn't they put cameras in there?? I mean for the patients safety? or do they just put them in the hall?... i guess you wouldn't be able to change in your room if a camera was in there.... gee i really don't know a thing about sleep studies! lol i'm quite the silly youngin'. :)

There was a camera in my room and I had to sign something stating that they were allowed to tape me. But, I don't know if they actually did. My Dad said they only do if you are having problems..not sure exactly what that means!
Rose, I was thinking the EXACT same thing! What an opportunity for a weirdo to take advantage of women while they are sleeping!
I told my doctor today that if the tests came back ok that i want another one because the darn tv kept me up all night! They better give me another one and my insurance company better not give me any crap!

I had to go back for a second test because I didn't sleep enough the first night. Fortunately, I got the same technician, and this time was more familiar with the process and was able to sleep. Admittedly I am more cautious than most people because I know so well what happens out there and how absolutely normal some of the most heinous perpetrators look. However, setting aside my paranoia, I did understand that they had video tapes, that there were multiple monitors for the multiple technicians in the control room, and there is an extensive background check done of each worker because it is recognized in the field how vulnerable sleep study participants are. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone who needs a sleep study. It is highly regulated, and safe. (And you get dressed in the bathroom because there is a video in the room - so no worries Finding!)

Still, had I been confronted with your worker, I would not have slept. Part of his job is to make you comfortable with the situation. Clearly he failed at that. Another part of his job is to make the environment conducive to you sleeping. He also failed at that. I hope if you go back you get someone else. I have severe sleep apnea, and the way I became suspicious is the same way you are. I started gasping for air in my sleep, waking up because I couldn't breathe, and even dreaming that I was being strangled. I'm glad you will keep pursuing this. Sleep apnea can make you very sick.

I think if I have to go again, I am going to a better hospital. I went to the closest hospital to me and it is known for being bad. I doubt they even do background checks, and he was the only technician working:) Very creepy! I will definitely fight this though! Thanks:)

I went to a sleep center. It is associated with the pulonary specialists in our area. It was very nice - each sleeping room was decorated like a home bedroom with a real bed, comforter, printed sheets, pictures on the wall, etc. Each room had a TV and a radio in it, too, for people who like to sleep with noise. In the morning they served coffee and tea. If you can find a sleep center it may be a lot more comfortable for you than going into a hospital. I can never sleep in a hospital. Good luck.
