Lyme question for dog owners...

I was wondering if you lymies that own dogs have vaccinated them with the Lyme vaccination? My son just got a new Great Dane puppy and the vet wants to vaccinate her with the Lyme Vaccine?  They live in  NH and there are many tics there. My golden had Lyme so he was not a candidate for the vaccine. I know years ago it was banned for people after many were crippled by it. May I get your opinons about it , good and bad?  Thanks all...  Dowa

Thank you lovelabs. What kind of treatment can they give if your pup does have a reaction to it like yours did? I mean once the pup is vaccinated the damage is done, correct? My gut instinct is to stay away from it but my son wants to do it because our golden retriever had Lyme, poor guy.  Gee 30% effective, of course the vet did not tell him that. Thank you for your reply.   D

All of my dogs are vaccinated. But, i did this before realizing what the people vaccine had done. We have ticks all over the place here, so I wanted to protect them. I keep getting them the booster each year just because they didn't seem to get sick at all from the first ones. I honestly don't know if I would do it again...I just don't know!
