Hi CajunGrl,  Thank You for doing what your doing.  I joined this group some time in the past, but to be honest do not remember exactly when.  Have never really spent much time on the computer - mostly read books and articles on Lyme.  I have both Lyme and Babesia.  Probably have other coinfections as well, but at this point, these are the two that I am concentrating on.  Have been on abx for the Lyme since 2006.  Presently, I am taking Azithrymicin, artimisinin, Larium and Mepron in the hopes of killing off the Babesia.  I was told by my LLMD that I need to get rid of the Babesia before I think about getting rid of the Lyme.  So.... since my first attempt failed (was trying to treat both at the same time), am sort of concentrating on just the babesia.  I realize that I also need to work on getting rid of the Lyme, but I have had such a diffiult time dealing with all the abx, that I finally just told myself I'd concentrate on one thing at a time.   I recently added grapefruitseed extract to target the cysts.  Have omnicef which I will start when I stop the Mepron.  My LLMD had me add the Larium about a month ago to get the babesia out of my brain.   She told me that the Mepron wouldnt or couldnt get past the blood brain barrier, so have to take the Larium.  Havent had any trouble with it so far. 

What I'd like to ask is whether there is anyone out there that has actually been successful in ridding themself of Babesia?  I've had it, I believe, for most of my life (I'm 57).  Not sure when I was bit, didn't have any symptoms with the exception of headaches which started at age 26.  I was told by about 30 neurologists that I was either nuts or lying.  Obviously they were either nuts or just plain ignorant. My husband is a physician and he didnt even know what was wrong with me so go figure.....

I read Dr. Schaller's book so am thinking I am on the right track.  If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions, please feel free to comment.

Welcome to the Lyme forum. I am fairly new to this and am also under treatment for babesia. As I understand it, babesia is like malaria; you can be functionally rid of it (no symptoms) and may test negative, but it may come back in the future. If you have ever had babesia, you can never donate blood again. I guess that is why. I do have a friend who, after 18 months of treatment, is now testing negative for babesia, and is without symptoms of it. She is now beginning IV treatments for Lyme. I find it inspiring to know that, and hope you will too.

I've never heard of Larium or omnicef - are they prescriptions?

Hi Christie,

Welcome!  I don't know alot about babesia as I have not researched that much.  I'm 53 and became better using alternative medicine after having lyme and ehrlichiosis since 1995.  Been in remission for 4 years now!

Welcome to the HW Lyme forum!!! You will find a lot of differing opinions on just about everything Lyme here! I was quite young when I was infected with RMSF (the spot-less type) - I was 5 or 6 yrs old. I have been dealing with the under-treatment & being un-diagnosed for another 40 yrs. (yep! I've made it to 46 so far! giggle!)

I was put on heavy doses of Minocycline for a full year, to treat the TBI in my brain. It seemed to work, although I do have to say that it did take awhile for the sx to go away, as I was not detoxing at the time. Now, I am a BIG fan of detoxing!!!

The LLMD I was seeing (he passed away last year) believed I had all of the co-infections based on clinical observation.

I am sure you will find a ton of info here & most likely wind up making a few friends to boot!!
