I think if you try it and it doesn't bother you, then it's okay. Most hummus is chickpeas, olive oil, garlic. I limit my carbohydrate intake, so I wouldn't eat too much of it, but if you don't have a yeast problem it could be okay for you. I like to dip veggies in it, or raw food crackers. It's really difficult to solve the food dilemma when you have Lyme. Like some other people, my LLMD gave me a food allergy test and many of the things I was eating to survive were problematic. I'm trying to do the candida diet, the IC diet, avoid the "trigger" foods revealed by the allergy test, avoid foods that can trigger inflammation, and follow a healthy diet. So many foods are eliminated by one or another of the diets that often I'm left with choices that are so unappetizing to me that I'd just as soon not eat. I'm a food phobic, too.
I know what you mean about yearning for the foods we used to have. I miss eating like a "normal" person. But I keep telling myself it's only temporary. Someday I will have blueberry pancakes again, and what a happy day that will be!
I've had good luck finding things I can eat that aren't too disgusting at alternative food stores like Whole foods and Trader Joes and Clarks. Maybe you will find some things there that you want to eat. Also, I drink a vitamin drink once or twice a day. That helps me get nutrition when my diet is so limited.
