First test back today. Negative???

Got my first "Western Blot" test back today and it came back negative. Dr. gave me a copy of the test results and it didn't quite look like what I've seen on here as far as the band breakdown. I called LabCorp and was told that since the Lyme IgG and IgM came back negative, they did not reflex it to the Western Blot. Don't know what it means, but the number on the results says <0.91 for both. LabCorp said they can still reflex to the Western Blot if Doc says it's ok.

According to the test:

Negative = <0.91

Equivocal= 0.91-1.09

Positive= >0.91

What do you think?

This is the ELISA titer count and not a Western Blot band analysis. I'd try to get the doctor to request the Western Blot band analysis. There are many cases where the ELISA titer is negative, but the Western Blot is positive.

That's what I'm thinking. Do you think that the specimine that LabCorps already has is sufficient or should I redraw? They said "they can use what they have". I don't care either way, I just want it done right. Thanks for your help.

I'd let them use the sample they already have. I'd also encourage you to try getting a test done through IGeneX - http://www.igenex.com/ because LabCorp does not report all the Lyme-Specific bands on the Western Blot (they omit bands 31 and 34, which are outer surface proteins and very specific for Bb/Lyme).

IGeneX will send you a kit for the bloodwork required. Just make sure you list a doctor to whom they can report results on the necessary form. At the bare minimum, I'd recommend tests #188 and #189 (Lyme Western Blot IgG and IgM).

Well , Doc apparently thinks that the test that LabCorps did was sufficient.  Been working on him for two days (through his nurses, of course) to ok the WB to the lab. No response from him one way or the other if he intends to or is even willing to extend my Doxy thats about to run out. Guess I'm looking for a new Doc. mad
