Why is this medication prescribed?

Azithromycin(Zithromax) is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis; pneumonia; sexually transmitted diseases (STD); and infections of the ears, lungs, skin, and throat. Azithromycin is in a class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

I've used it for sinus infections too.

Is that the info you wanted or did you want to know what it was used for as in treating Lyme Disease?

Hi. I take azythromycin for babesiosis (a co-infection of Lyme). My LLMD says it also helps with the Lyme.

I'm on 250 mg of zith twice a day; I take it with Alinia, 500 mg 3 times a day, for Babesia. They seem to be making a difference with my Babesia anyway.

I use it for babesiosis along with Mepron, too. And I take artemisinin. I'm curious, what is Alinia? If that's helping, I want to know what it is. Thanks.

Thanks, JoAnn. That was interesting. It is yellow, like Mepron but they don't mention any association. I will ask my LLMD about this next week.
