5 year old nephew has 10 inch diameter bullseyes (3 of them)!

Ok so he has not been acting himself...not big fever, not obvious illness, just not feeling right. Vague complaints..not hungry, tummy bugs him and mood is really off.
2 nights ago, at bath time, 2 very large ... very large pink patches appeared on his torso...the circle is quite large with a say 1/2 inch to 1 inch non pink center. The three rings take up most of his little body! He was with his parents vacationing in he outerbanks from July 23rd to Aug 7th and these patches appeared on the 16th...

We live in Massachusetts so of course there are ticks here, but it seems running around in shorts and bathing suit everyday would make him more prone to getting bit by a tick, so hopefully the bit was no earlier than the last week in July.

Bloodwork is pending, but the doctors put him on amoxicillin for 3 weeks.


What do you all think? Is that that standard for a 5 year old child? Is Doxy not ok for a child? Also, is 3 weeks enough? Hopefully this was found early enough. And there is NO WAY it would have been found had it not been for the rash and the fact that his parents knew about the Lyme rash from other family members. If the poor kid had not broken out in a rash, he would not be getting treated now. Scary....

Any input or thoughts. I have beed diagnosed with chonic lyme and always test positive on the IGM western blots, but no the IGG blots. Thus only my lyme specific doctor in NY will treat me for it, all other doctors say its a false positive that I have fibromyalgia. Sigh...

I do not want to see my wonderful nephew ever going threw the pain I go threw every single day of my life!

Doxy can cause tooth discoloration in kids, so that's why they don't like to use it for kids.

I agree with Simela, best thing to do is get the kid seen by an LLMD.

Have to chime in here myself - I agree with the others, get him into a LLMD. 3 weeks is not enough time to rid his little body of this infection. Most knowledgeable Lyme docs will keep their patients on at least 2 months of abx.

Thank God for the rash!

My son got Lyme at camp last year - was so tired he was crying and complaining of a weird pain in his arm all week. the nurse at the camp just gave him Tylenol and sent him back. 2 days after returning home, he had a bulls eye rash on his torso. I took him in the next day to my LLMD and we did 3-4 weeks of amox. I should check this for you guys. that was over a year ago and he has not had any symptoms since.
