One of my symptoms has been pains in my teeth - kind of a dull ache.  Never had a cavity, so that's not it.  Last night the pain woke me through the night.  Could this be herxing in my teeth?  Does anyone know of anything that I can do?

Applying 100% pure theraputic grade clove oil (you may want to dilute a few drops of the clove oil in a few drops of vegetable oil to make a solution of half clove oil and half vegetable oil before applying, it can be a bit strong) to the sore places in my mouth seems to help me when the Lyme is wreaking havoc on my teeth.  

Clove oil is what dentists used to use as anasthetic for tooth extractions before Novocaine was invented...and my Mom just got one of her teeth pulled (it had a serious infection under it and was not saveable) and she used clove oil on the tooth and surrounding gum area and only needed 1/4 the usual dose of anasthetic for the tooth extraction, to the pleasant surprise of her dentist.

Don't try this if you know you are allergic to cloves!

Oh my gosh wonderful question...
I thought I was going nuts for the last few years off and on I get jaw pain and tooth pain not at the same time but now I know other lyme people get this.

so answer to your question I get teeth pain and I usually take a pain pill I don't take them often so the pain will have to be pretty bad when I take it. hope u feel better

Sometimes the teeth pain is unbearable and I take tylenol. Also the teeth/gum above my front teeth get numb. I thought it was caused by an infected root canal, but the tooth was pulled a month ago and the numbness is still there. It's a weird feeling.

My understanding is that there are tubules all along the tooth root that the lyme bacteria gets into.

Caldonia Sun - I don't want to add insult to injury, but you might want to do some reading on jawbone cavitations. Just because the tooth is gone, doesn't mean the cesspool left too....and it was an RC tooth. The numbness could be from the extraction and feeling will eventually come back.

I've heard or read Dr. B talking about root canals. He said they are unsuccessful for as many as 50% of the people because the nerve is not pulled out or something like that.  He said nothing that is "dead" should be left in the mouth, or something close to this idea.

I get tooth aches and ear pain--this is a new symptom, started about 2 mo ago. It comes and goes. It is pretty painful, but since in comes and goes, I do not take anything for it--I am waiting for it to pass and so far, it does. It may last minutes or up to several hours. I also wake up in pain and I suspect I am grinding my teeth, more recently. I have had one root canal, years ago, and never had a problem with it. The tooth pain right now is on my left side of the face--nothing to do with my root canal (on the right). It is a migrating pain, it seems it affects different parts of my mouth/face almost every time.  I'll have to bring it up with my LLMD on Thrusday when I will meet him.

It is a dull-pressure pain and my lips seem to get numb (sometimes) when I get the pain or soon after. So far, my root canal seems fine. This started after the Lyme symptoms RE-started, so I do not think it has anything to do with my RC.

Mamyou, the numbness is over the upper front teeth, but the extraction was in the far back. Actually the numbness started before the extraction - I thought it might go away after. Time will tell.

Hi Knuks

I have shooting pains in my teeth-- among other things--- that started well before taking ABX for Lyme. This was one of my symptoms that truly made me believe I could have Lyme. The pain never is in one tooth-- it's in all off them at the same time either top or bottom. Feels like lightening strikes.

I have been on Doxy for a week and am waiting for blood test results.

Since taking Doxy my teeth pain is almost nil but do get the ocassional attack and it's more painful than before taking the Doxy. After taking Doxy for a few days I got a similar pain shooting through one of my eyeballs. Thankfully that never happened again.

Herx reactions? Could be. Crazy disease.

Just to add to this discussion and to others who may experience the same, I'm sure I have dental lyme -- when I am having Lyme pains, my entire mouth buzzes, burns, aches, throbs, and feels inflamed. No so much my teeth as my gums and my whole mouth. Most recently, it may have been herxing, but before I started my latest round of abx, it was very bad.

Last year, a tooth fell out of my mouth for no apparant reason (I guess it had broken, but I don't know how, and had to go to oral surgeon to remove the pieces and root below the gums). I am a faithful brusher and flosser, yet I'm finding new decay between teeth.

Also, 2 fillings that I received this year have fallen out for the 2nd time. Maybe it's the dentist (who is expensive!), but he claims I grind my teeth. When I wore a dental mouthpiece, my mouth was raw when I got up.

Often, after a good brushing (not too hard!) and flossing, when I rinse w/ mouthwash, it burns like H!!

Unfortunately, I went over my limit of what my dental ins would pay for this year, so I have to wait til Jan to get more treatment.

But, yes, the way it feels, it definitely feels like Lyme.

I hate being the barer of bad suggestions, but your situation with your teeth reminds me of what mine used to be. I have now lost all of my teeth, all to do with Lyme. I was a good brusher & flosser. Every dentist I saw commented how healthy my gums looked.

I know I have seen a paper or two that has stated that they had the proof of the connection between tooth/gum and Lyme Disease.

If anyone is interested in seeing those papers or reports or whatever they were, I can look them up again.

Traveler, oh my gosh, I am sorry! Yes, I am now fearing I may lose my teeth. I do not and never had gum disease, but my gums have receded horribly and I have those 'ridges' of tooth showing under the gums.

If you're able to find any papers w/o a lot of searching, then I think you should post them. I can do searches on dental lyme -- and, oh, btw, my dentist did not diagnose dental lyme, but he and his assistants know about it and admit that it attacks the gums and teeth. Yet he still maintains that I grind my teeth, and since I sleep w/ no one but dogs, I'll never really know.

But when my entire mouth is sore and raw and throbbing, I know it's gotta be lyme.

Also, almost forgot -- when folks here were talking about tooth pain. I have not had that since re-starting abx, BUT, before then, some of my teeth -- different ones at different times -- would be so senstive that I shot thru the roof just touching them w/ toothpaste. Then, the next day, it would be fine. Very very strange and unsettling....

I can most certainly sympathize with you +Lyme!! I am soo sorry. Razzle's idea of using clove oil is a good one. It got me through a whole bunch of tooth pain. There is also a couple of products that are sold OTC that will numb an area on the gums. Baby strength can be found in the baby teething area in drug stores, and adult strength is sold in with the supplies for braces & dentures.

I find those papers or studies & post them here in this thread. Thanks for letting me know!!
