If I were to become pregnant, what kinds of antibiotics and/or other treatments for Lyme would I have to stop? I.e., what typical Lyme treatments would not be safe during pregnancy? I'm particularly interested to find out about...

1) If certain antibiotics -- or all antibiotics? -- would be ruled out.

2) If heparin shots are safe

3) If the calcium d-glucarate I take for Liver function would be safe

4) Diflucan?

5) Anything else/general thoughts about if it's generally safe or generally not...

...not that my husband and I are trying for pregnancy, just calculating the risk of Lyme treatment's having to be derailed if we became thus blessed.

The only safe antibiotic used during pregnancyand while breastfeeding is amoxicillin. I was given 875 mg once a day. Some good news is that lyme symptoms seem to subside during pregnancy and nursing. However, I was very sick during my pregnancy so not sure which one is worse, but that's just me.

I don't know about the other drugs/treatments you are taking. It is best to talk to your lyme doc and ob/gyn. I recently had a miscarriage and am also trying for baby #2. My first just turned 3 and is completely healthy and I was on amoxicillin while pregnant with her.

If you do find out you are pregnant I would stop taking everything until you talk to a Dr to make sure it is safe for the baby. There are a lot of do's and don'ts while pregnant.

why not deliberately make sure you do not get pregnant until you finish treatment.

has your husband been tested? we have had members from this forum have the problem of passing it or getting it from their spouses.

If you know you have lyme why not practice super safe sex and not worry about either.

Who feels like having sex while on diflucan anyway.
I would rather be safe than reallly really sorry and know I took every precaution not to pass this on to my baby or spouse.

Thanks again for the input. about, "Why not just put off pregnancy until after treatment?" That's an excellent question, but docs believe I've had Lyme for possibly a long, long time prior to diagnosis, and I get the feeling I'll be in this for a long haul. So it's down to an issue of, "Is pregnancy an option for us any time in the distant future, or as long as I'm being treated for Lyme is it out of the question and something we need to be extra-safe about?"

The issue has actually been settled for us for now. I've posted the same question to the mercury chelation group I'm on, and the response there has been a resounding, "No, you cannot chelate while pregnant!" Chelating is something that has been such a salvation to my health that it really slam-dunks the issue for us at present.
