Can Nasonex and other steriodal nose sprays be used safely with Lyme Disease?

My ENT doctor thinks it's safe and says that they are not absorbed like other steriods.

Is this true?

My LLMD says it's safe. I use it during allergy season.

Other ideas to try first:

If you've been on a particular antihistamine for a while, it is possible your body has developed a tolerance to it. You might find better results switching to a different antihistamine for a while, and then switching back to your original brand/product. For example, if you've been taking Claritin, try switching to Zyrtec for a while, and then switch back next allergy season to the Claritin again and see if it helps any better.

Saline nasal rinses, to wash away allergens at least twice a day. Some like a Neti Pot for this, others prefer a nasal spray bottle (need to use the nasal spray bottle more often than twice a day because it doesn't flush the sinuses as much as using a neti pot).

Reduce sodium (salt) intake, increase potassium intake. An imbalance between sodium and potassium can cause water retention, including in the ears, and this water in the ears can lead to dizziness/vertigo, tinnitis, ear infections, etc.

Deep breathing exercises. Oxygen can do some amazing things for our health and well-being. I always feel better when I open the windows and let fresh air into the house, even during allergy season (I'm very allergic to tree/grass/weed pollen). I have a HEPA air filter to help reduce pollen and dust in the air, too...so I run this filter after I've gotten the house aired out, and it seems to really help the quality of the air inside the house.

Vitamin C supplements - my DH used to have fluid in his ears and he would get ear infections with every cold, and also from going over a mountain pass or in an airplane. Once he started taking Vitamin C supplements (he started with 1000mg/day, now he's taking about 3-4000mg/day), he stopped having so much trouble with fluid in his ears, and he also hasn't had an ear infection since (and we've gone over the mountains many times, and flown across the country several times since, all with no ear infections; he also doesn't get colds as often as he did before taking Vitamin C). I can't guarantee it will help everyone, but it is something to consider trying...

Some do believe any steroid anywhere in or on a Lyme/coinfection patient is a bad idea. But breathing is pretty important, LOL, so I think if nothing else works, then go with the steroids.

I used to use steroid nasal spray - in fact, I used to have to use Asthma nebulizer solution sprayed up my nose because the nasal steroid sprays were too weak to do anything for me. But then the steroids quit helping, so I stopped using them. And now I just take a lot of antihistamines and also have found Singulair to help some with my allergies also (I do have Asthma, too, and the Singulair works very well for that).
