I'm noticing that my front top teeth are losing the enamel at the bottom edges & that there are brownish spots appearing all around the edges of the other teeth (incl in between them). I have also had gum problems due to the Lyme (I think) & now this... This has happened quite suddenly... Is it possible that the abx is causing this problem w/ the enamel? I have been taking Doxy 400mg (200mg/bid) for almost 4 wks.... I know abx can affect young children's teeth but I'm in my 50's!

I am really upset. I used to have beautiful white, straight teeth. Now they're not only becoming crooked (& getting loose) but they're turning this awful color.... any thoughts??

I'm so sorry about your tooth/gum problems.

I did some more googling & found that doxy can stain adult teeth in the way I've described--it's worse right around the edges, esp in between the teeth & on another lyme forum someone else had posted what sounds like the same thing. Hopefully, it's temporary. I'm going to try some tooth whiteners & see if there's any change. (No flouride water or toothpaste....)

I think I've seen some folks post somewhere about their teeth getting loose w/ Lyme; I'll have to do some more research on that though.

I am seeing a dentist but I had to hold off on the dental work I need to get done because I just can't face it while I feel so ill. It's a good suggestion to give her a call & see what she has to say about the discoloration though...

It seems to be just one problem/symptom after another after another.....

Hi all,

I had taken Doxy 400mg daily for about 6 months before I started Dr. Jernigan's protocol and all my natural teeth turned black.   When I stopped the doxy, my teeth turned back to their natural color so I knew it was the doxy that did this. 

Also, today I use a natural tooth powder called Good-Gums and I love this stuff!  All natural and does wonders for the few teeth I have remaining.   Also whitens my teeth.  I didn't order from this site, I found a different site where it was less money but can't find that site at the moment.

I would also like to suggest that if at all possible, use a dentist that understands Lyme. LD presents unique situations and conditions with dental issues, and if your dentist isn't familiar with these things, a harsher treatment than necessary may be used.

Thanks for all the great advice...I'll ask for recommendations for appropriate dentist & I'm ordering Good Gums asap! I did do some more research & it seems that there is data re: doxy causing extrinsic tooth staining that is generally temporary (or at least can be removed w/ whiteners). I'm going to stay on the doxy for now b/c even w/ side-effects I'm finally beginning to feel a bit better than I was a few weeks ago....dr & I are going to evaluate my progress in <3 wks, which will be 6 wks on 400mg/day doxy.
