WANTS TO GO HOME

My sis, my friend, and now my cause.    Before she started suffering from Lyme type symptoms, she was confident, active, she is a writer and owned her own magazine.   She resided at the Lake of the Ozarks for many years and enjoyed boating, swimming, writing, reading, cooking and so much more...now she can hardly hold a conversation without stubbling on words, she can barely write, or at least read what she wrote.   She has no depth perception and moves as if she is 90.....my sister of 54 has been recently diagnosed by a Mayo Neurologist she has a a-typical Alzheimers.   This is something that will NOT affect her memory, but will continue to detoriate her current symptoms...which I'm sure you can guess by now are all Lyme symptoms.   She would be considered in the late stage...depth perception, speech, writing, walking, joint pain...to name a few.   So with that said, we just finished a week long steroid treatment that the Neurologist said this may be a antibody from her thyroid causing this..but I doubt it.  Well it didn't change anything...so we are onto the quest of Lymes Disease....as we have suspected for months now.   He also shot down the idea of Lymes right away.   She has seen 4 Neurologists, internal med docs, pysch docs, speech therapist, has had MRIs, a PET Scan and numerious blood tests and other exams.   And of course thousands of dollars.

 

I have spent two days searching and trying to find a doctor (it's almost like a secret society)  and learning more about this disease and I finally found one just 45 mins from us...and we don't have to wait to very long to get in.   We will start with a Western Blot even before she sees him and send it off for results. 

 

The forum thing is so new to me...but I hope we are on the right track.  And hope to learn more from all of you.  We pray that this is a treatable disease.   We just lost our older sister two weeks ago and I am the youngest - I REFUSE to watch my other sister suffer any longer and RUFUSE to be the last sibling too soon....her wish is to go back home to the Ozarks and live the rest of her life as normal as she can.   I want to help her get there.

Terrik! What a great sister you are. And you are so right to look into Lyme into the cause of your sister's problems.

Cheezhead said it right, there is a wealth of information in our New to Lyme thread and, in addition, there is a very useful search function on this site. That will enable you to access all the thread topics on questions as they occur to you.

As you have probably already figured out, there is so much information -- some of it contradictory and controversial -- to sift through to understand this disease. This forum is a great resource.

Beyond that, this forum can offer you a great deal of support and understanding, for both you and your sister. With her symptoms so profound her treatment will be a lot of hard work and I think you both will be glad to know that there is always encouragement and helpful advice to be had here.

Even now you can help your sister with starting on a detox regimen as laid out in the "New to Lyme?..." sticky. Although the methods seem quite simple they can help to relieve some symptoms and get the body to eliminate the toxins that cause these symptoms.

We are here for you and look forward to hearing about your sister's progress.

Hang in there. What a wonderful sister you are. I myself have sisters who have been there for me despite some rough rough times. I am feeling wonderful now. I am hopeful that with aggressive treatment and your love your sister will be on her way to recovery soon. Come back often and ask as many questions as you can.
