Silly Question about Nasal Spray and Lymes

Hi!  I have NOT been diagnosed with Lyme but in my heart I truly feel that this is the right diagnosis for me.  From all of my odd symptoms one that I have is chemical sensitivity....Can anyone relate?  I am SUPER sensitive to medicines and even when I go to the hair salon the chemicals from hair dye....

My question, my doctor prescribed me Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray to break up some of the allergies causing throat irriation.  Because of my symptom of chemical sensitivity I worry taking anything nowawdays, even advil :(  Can anyone reassure me that I will be fine in taking this nasal spray (I think its a steroidal spray too) .... Has anyone with Lymes used this spray and did fine, like no reaction??

I don't know much of anything about nasal sprays, as I only rinse my nasal passages and take anti-histamines, but anyone infected with TBI's (tick-borne infections) should stay as far away from steroids of any type as they can. I know for a few, there is no choice, but those of us that can really need to.

Steroids (of any kind) lower the immune system ability to work, which leaves us more open to get infections and for the infections you have to dig in deeper. With TBI's , they sure don't need any help in digging deeper into our bodies!! That makes them even harder to get rid of!

So those who don't absolutely need to use steroids, please don't. Those that do need them, please use them only as much as you truly need!

My doctor Rx's me the same thing when he discovered I had a bad nasal infection from allergies which I had no idea I even had. I won't take anything with steroids in it due to the horrible experience I had over a year ago.

I decided to get a neti-pot and use the pre-mixed packets that's included when you buy the neti-pot and the pre-mixed packets. This has done wonders for me.

It works great for me! If you can use the natural remedies and get good results that's always better than the stuff with chemicals and steroids. My ENT was amazed how well my sinuses cleared up with the natural remedies when I went back for my check up. He actually told me to keep using it since I was getting good results from it.

Hi Neurogurl,

I also have extreme chemical sensitivities.  Because Lyme spirochetes produce neurotoxins as a waste product, they may contribute to these sensitivites.  However, I would attribute the majority of your chemical sensitivities to the gut issues you mentioned in a previous post.

I was on Flonase about 10 years ago.  No immediate reaction, but as a steroid, ultimately it will contribute to fungal issues, so you should only take it if you feel you really need it.  It's difficult to find doctors who are willing to do nasal cultures to figure out what's actually going on.  You should let your doctor know if you're concerned about taking the medication.
