FINALLY saw my lyme doctor yesterday.

After two months of waiting I saw my the doctor Monday. He went over my initial blood work (7 vials) and nothing showed lyme. He did say I had had mono at some point in my life, which is interesting. He went over all my symptoms, and that I was originally from CT and grew up there. He basically said that he was going to start my on a very high dose of amoxocillin and take another blood test (western blot and something else) and then do a three day urine test that I was to send out to the lab in CA (igenex). Hopefully the antibiotcs will make the lyme show up more. If it didn't, he would continue to treat me. I asked about all the co infections and he said that basically everyone is so hyped up about all those because of the lead lyme doctor in CT being persecuted for lyme. He started diagnosing people with coinfections to get around diagnosing the with lyme so he COULD treat them because people were trying to close him down. So now everyone thinks they have them. AND there are TONS of "lyme doctors" out there that will SCAM you for money (the ones who charge ONLY cash). They will take your money and continue to do so and are not worried about fixing you at all. My doctor take insurance and has been treating lime for over 20 years. He even treats people who are world known! (I tried to get some names but he wouldn't budge ;) ). It makde me feel good that he knew what he was talking about and I hope nobody becomes affended by what I am posting, I am just telling you what he said. I will see him in a month to discuss my new tests and to see how the antibiotics are working. IF they are not helping, he will change courses or we might pursue an IV. He NEVER starts someone right off the bat on an IV (as I was sure I was wanting!). And I see why now. The co infections are rare (they DO happen), that he will test only if my antibiotics are not helping and it seems that needs to be done. I trust his decisions, and I'm scared. I cried sitting in the waiting room, I cried to the nurse, I cried while I was talking to him, I cried afterwards and the whole 3 1/2 hours home. But, I'm glad I'm finally being treated. My obgyn (who saved both my children's lives) would not have sent me to him, if he didn't know what he was talking about. He was the one who intially told me he thought for SURE I had lyme. I asked him if he would guess how long I'd had it and he said I probably was infected as a child growing up in the woods of CT and it lay dormant. Then when I had my second child, 6 weeks after having her it became full blown, OR I was reinfected and started to eat my body. I'm sorry this was so long. Such a sad illness. So many people suffereing without ever knowing the true reason why. I'm sending my cousin who has been suffering for YEARS to him, because I am for sure she has lyme as well. Phew.

I am sooo glad that you have gotten in to see a LLMD and you have now started your treatment!! YEA!!!! YOu are on your way to a healthier you!!!

Please do be sure to detox. dry skin brush and drink plenty of lemon water as these things will help your body get rid of the dying bacteria much better - thus reducing some of your symptoms.

Although your doc is quick to dismiss the possibility of co-infections, I would be careful to get to know the symptoms of them. I have been on Lyme treatment now for 4 months - after about 3 months I really started showing the symptoms of Babesia and Ehrlichia, and now Bartonella symptoms are starting to show up. Before, they just all mixed together creating an overwhelming Lyme symptom flare.

Do some of your own research - co-infections are not rare. On the other hand, not everyone who is infected with Lyme has co-infections. Not everyone infected with any one of the tick-borne infections has to have any other tick-borne infection. The majority of the time one follows another though.

Just some food for thought.

Thanks everyone! I am actualy semi convinced I have a co infection because of this 24/7 headache, BUT i have to continue on this path of recovery the way this doctor says. He sees 200 patients a month, has treated lyme basically his whole life, and knows the worlds best lyme doctors. I have to believe what he says. I have no other choice at this point. So onward and forward we go.

Also, I am not telling anyone who is paying there doctor cash only to stop. I am just saying, my doctor said they are scams. They do not know best, and want only your money.

Congrats on getting treated!  I have to disagree with your doc's perspective on co-infections.  If a parasite lab hadn't seen the babesia in my red blood cells under the microscope, I would not have even suspected a tick bourne illiness.  I had nearly forgotten about having a tick on my head for 3 days at age 14, since at that age, I didn't even know what a tick was.  My friends said they thought it was a tick (after the fact), but the extent of their knowledge of ticks consisted of "you can't crush them, but you can burn them."  Not very helpful, really!
