Heavy Metal Chelation....what is best way?

I have a heavy metals burden in my body and need to chelate.  I know there are several methods...IV and the other is the method which you take Alpa Lipoic acid every three hours for 3 days/nights with four days off.  This procedure is slow, but I hear much safer than the IV route.

I am the "want it done yesterday" type.  Is IV safe and has anyone here done it or another method to lower your heavy metals load?

Heavy metal chelation is a risky thing according to my Chinese Medicine Practitioner who is certified in doing that. I'm not really clear on the why's (there is so much info passed between us during my appts!!), but she said she didn't want me doing one.

Please do your research on this - be sure the doc that you go to to have this done can tell you confidently that they have done this many, many times successfully, without complications happening, before you agree to have this done.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge about this will come along soon to shed some more light on this for you!

I had this done once before I was diagnosed with lymes. They did a 'challenge' test. I had the IV in for 4 hours- it's done slow. And the first time you urinate, the urine is collected and then checked for metals, etc. The problem with chelation is that it takes the good vitamins/minerals too. My doc had me do a vitamin/nutrient IV the next day to replace the good stuf that was lost. I know they have suppositories for chelation, but I do not know much about them.

I did it same way as Busta.

and the replenishing vitamin mineral IV next day.

the one thing I had unbelievably high was cadnium and
couldn't put a dent in it.

Busta, how far down did you actually get your metals to go.

I actually did 3 of those IV in about a 3 month time period and
still had metals but things did come down.

pls do not do an IV of usually DMPS, if you are very toxic, this could cause major kidney damage..google dmpsbackfire i believe it is

i am new here so do not want to get embroiled in upsetting anyone and i have been chelating with the cutler protocol which i believe is the best and safest way, it uses oral dosing dmps (6-8 hrs) dmsa (3-4 hrs) for the foirst 3 montsh to lower blood levels of metals and then ala..ala can move metals into brain-cns if you start to fast (ie suggested to use dmsa-dmps for first 3 months)..most people need o start very low dosing dmps-3-6 mgs compounded; dmsa same amount otc; ala same 3-6 mgs..

i do wish now i would have been doing lyme treatments at same time as now that my metals are lower (my belief)
the lyme related issues(mold-parasites-viral-etc) have taken over the farm so to speak

sorry to double post. I have quite severe neuro problems right now i believe due to really bad lyme-etc herxing.

SO the dmpsbackfire site, implies all dmps is bad, not so. Oral dmps at a low starting dose is safe per Andy Cutler Amalgam Illness Book and they use DMPS exclusively in europe for lead-mercury-arsenic. You should do a hair test that you can order via directlabs.com on drs data. Order the toxic elements and essential elements..this is key as u need to see what toxic metals u have as we are all different..ie some of us were exposed to lead, some have aluminum, some are toxic with mercury and show no hair mercury meaning they do not excrete-detox very well (this was me). you can post on the forum and people wil help interpret for you..

dmsa causes lowered neutrophils-wbc which can increase yeast gut problems for many (this was me)...so personally I would suggest the FDC-Frequent Dose chelation group on yahoo for chelation. Its 90% right whereas most other protocols IMO are 90% wrong and of course there are a good many drs who have no real clue about metal chelation but will practice on you, while telling you that none of their patients have had any problems with this "protocol"..I Digress

ALA is you are correct done on a 3-4 hr cycle, 3 days on 4 off..some people later on do longer rounds, ie 4-7 days..YOU have to be very very careful with ALA especially after amalgam removal as body starts to release metals once it knows that all metals have been removed (ie your fillings).. If you take ALA when you have high blood levels it will move mercury anyway into brain-cns..this is why most people (ie me and most others) have AFTER 3 MONTHS ONLY, started with 3-6 mgs ALA (kirkmans makes 25 mg powdered capsules which we slice and dice and then dab our fingers and ingest)..ie 25 mg capsule divides into 2, then 4, then 8, so this is approx a days worth

you dose through the night as well, as its important to keep a steady level dose of whatever chelator u r using

Cutler himself is a man who is a lyme denier, which is unbelievable really..i think its a male ego thing. I have had many arguments with the moderators as have others and they loosened up the postings a year or so ago..but you still have the unstables who like to show up and "parrot that andy cutler says lyme does not exist". Please do not let this taint your view on his metal chelation protocol, it works and is the safest.

ABSOLUTELY NO Cilantro..it has the tendency for some to move mercury into brain (did to me, brain freeze for 2-3 months,)

Back to your post. Wow! I'm so sorry to hear of all that you have had to go through! So do you only have Lyme disease, or do you have other tick-borne infections as well? Lyme doesn't often travel alone.

If you haven't already, it would be beneficial for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of relevant information, symptom lists and informative links that have been put together by our members here! Most of those who have read through it have said that it was very helpful!!

We also have a pretty good search function on this forum to help you narrow down your search for information from past posts. We must be our own health advocates now and the best thing to arm yourself with is knowledge about our infections and the different ways to treat them!

Do you already have a doc that will/is treating you for your tick-borne infection(s)? Or do you need a hand in finding one?

Don't worry about it, Mercury! We all make mistakes. Anything that doesn't make sense, just ask. Lots of us here will take the time to help you understand. It's a real shame that when we are the most ill is the time we need to learn and understand the most information about these infections.

We are all in the same boat here, we just try to help out all who need a little help!!
