I'm so frustrated.
My blood work was negative for Lyme and my doctor was thrilled that I "do not have Lyme". And yet he has no answers for what might be wrong with me. I think he's wrong and he thinks I'm wrong. I like my doctor and never really having been very ill in the past this feeling of helplessness with respect to my health is totally foreign to me. I hate it.

Top that off with the fact that today was a particularly bad day. Fingers were so sore and swollen it was tough to do anything, crawling sensation in my right lower leg, pain in my right foot, numbness, fatigue, neck pain, headache and overall feeling of being unwell.

Can anyone tell me if Naturopaths can provide effective treatment for Lyme? I really have nowhere else to go at this point since the medical community is proving to be utterly useless in helping me right now.

My apologies for venting. It was just one of those days.
I'm so grateful to have found this forum. It makes me feel better......

I am not sure , I am not a doctor, but I do have Lyme and I have some of the same symptoms that you have. The crawling sensations are horrible, so it the pain. If your doctor doesn't help you my advise would be to find another doctor, I have been through many.

Also your blood should be checked for vitamins deff. I hope you get some answers, but honestly even with a positive test , there is no cure all it seems for Lyme.

Your symptoms do sound like Lyme. I have those symptoms and have a positive Igenix Western Blot, What bloodwork did your Dr. order? Was the Western Blot negative? Did you see if there were any positive strands. The only Drs. that really know how to test for, diagnose, and treat Lyme are LLMDs (Lyme Literate MDs). They can be hard to find locally, depending on where you live. There is info. on it on the "new to Lyme" thread.

Thank you for your responses.

ELISA was negative and as a result the Western Blot was not done. My doctor believes that Lyme is extremely rare and is not willing to do anything beyond what he has done. He suggested that I come back to see him about my "pains" again if they don't go away......but has no idea what's wrong with me. I'm not really interested in hearing the same thing again and again and again from him.

I live in Canada and finding LLMD's is extremely difficult.

I've only been suffering since July of this year and I have free health care so I feel very guilty complaining after reading some of the stories here.

The ELISA test is completely inaccurate. I was in the same situation. My PCP ordered the ELISA and said that the Western Blot couldn't be done because that was negative. I have now learned about how inaccurate the ELISA is; I think it's only positive in about 15% of Lyme cases. Do whatever you can to find a LLMD ASAP. The longer Lyme goes w/o treatment, the worse it gets and the harder it is to treat. Go w/ your gut instinct. I cancelled an appt. w/ a LLMD 6 months prior because I had so many Drs. tell me that there was no way that it was Lyme because I don't live on the East coast, never had the rash, etc. I wish that I would have went w/ my instincts and seen that LLMD, although I am grateful that I finally just trusted myself and saw a LLMD. Don't give up!

Homeopaths can be very effective in treating Lyme and the co-infections!! Do you have one in mind already?

I would suggest that you not go to your regular doc with anything that has to do with your Lyme & possible co-infections since he has that attitude towards these infections.

I'm so sorry that you have been having such a hard time! If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone!! The last week has been a doosey for me!!! eyes

Thanks to you Traveler I have a Lyme Literate Naturopath not too far from me. I'm very grateful to you for providing me this information. I have my first appointment with her on Thursday.

I have some hope that I might feel better one day soon!!

It will still take a lot of work to heal, but you should begin to feel better soon! Remember to celebrate the little victories along the way! :-)

Hi Angela,

Don't rely on a doctor who is basing diagnosis on an ELISA. As others have mentioned, it is very inaccurate. Naturopathic doctors are absolutely able to treat Lyme. They also usually have a lot more info on what supplements are helpful to symptomatically treat different aspects of Lyme and co-infections.

If you have a LLND, around that is fantastic. I would not hesitate at all to seek their opinion. They should at least be able to order an Igenex western blot for you.

Thanks everyone. It's funny, but just knowing that I'm going to see someone who I believe can help me has made me feel better.....more in control of my health, which I have not felt since these weird symptoms started. Whether or not this is Lyme, I feel confident that this LLND can help me restore my health.

Today I felt happier and less worried than I have in ages.
