Thank you Razzle & Tacitus for your responses.
I am taking something called IMD for the metals.
Did you do any IV Mercury chelation?
Myself? Got Lyme in 2000 but wasn't diagnosed till six years later, positive for Borrelia B and Garinii, Bartonella. I spent a number of years bedbound and unable to walk a few yards. I gradually recovered over the past four years. I started to jog lightly only a couple of months ago.
I did a couple of years of herbals. Cowden did nothing for me, whilst I got major relief in symptoms with Buhner's but as long as I took the herbs. Real progress came only when I went the antibiotic route but it wasn't an easy one.
Despite what traveler said I believe herbals are a good supportive treatment for the immune system and reducing the damage caused by Lyme toxins. I still take some herbs, mainly Eleuthero.
This site has some great information on managing symptoms, different herbs, dosages etc. http://buhnerhealinglyme.com/
and a few posts about
tinnitus too http://buhnerhealinglyme.com/?s=tinnitus
With regard to mercury, no I didn't do any IV chelation, fortunately.
I would really invite anybody thinking about
chelation to browse the file section of this group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/
before making any decision in that regard. It can save a lot of unnecessary troubles.
Regarding the Lyme vs. mercury issue, I'm not a doctor of course, but based on my experience I cannot see why the two cannot be done in parallel. When I started I was still on antibiotics.
I would probably begin with the Lyme treatment first and once comfortable with that would introduce chelation but only if that's done via the Cutler's route, if not then I'd agree with your doctor and postpone.
Bear in mind that before chelating, Cutler recommends some supportive supplements to enhance detox and only after that chelating is introduced and very gradually.
Having said that, each of us react differently and have to adjust our treatments to what our bodies can tolerate.
Both Lyme and mercury chelation take several months or years and if your body can at some point do both, then recovery will be much quicker.
There is a very good talk by Dr Horowitz who believes that treating Lyme successfully requires a multi-pronged approach. It's included in Part 1 (see link) and well worth watching.
