I never get one but always worry that I should. Anyone know if it's bad for those of us who already have high viral loads?
Fwiw- my friend has the flu and her dr told her that many are sick from a strain that was not in the vaccine.

I think it's controversial. Some people feel it protects them and others think it could stimulate the immune system or tax the immune system in a negative way. Others worry about
the potential harmful additives of the injection.
I didn't get it. I have been around people the past few weeks which have pneumonia, TB, whooping cough, flu, etc. I never catch any of it. I think my immune system is so depleted from Lyme and co that it can't react anymore.

I haven't had a flu shot in years now. Every year my Mom and I get into the discussion of who really needs to have one and who doesn't, LOL! She lives with my brother who still has a 2 year old and other school aged children in the house, so I encourage her to get one ...and she doesn't have any chronic illnesses!
I don't get one, because I don't have small or school-aged children around me, and it does lower the immune system for a few days, simply by giving it something else to deal with. That also always happens to be the time that I have to be 'out and about
', so I'm more exposed than usual anyway. I just figure there's no need to do something that I know will lower my immune system and then being out where I will be exposed to those flu germs! LOL!

I agree that it is not necessary. they inject into other animals, caterpillars
than just egg, to create whatever is truly in the shot,
people may have unknown allergies and a weakend immune sys.
so what is good for one person, can be determintal to another...

I got one. I wasn't going to at first and I didn't last year, but my kidney doctor told me that because I have only one kidney I have to be very careful about
getting the flu because high fevers could really do a number on me. In fact, any time I get a high fever that I can't bring down with Tylenol I have to go to the ER so they can bring it down for me. I was nervous about
having done it and expected that I would feel sick from it, but it never happened. Oddly, I felt great for the week after I got it and haven't had a rough time of it since. Will I do it again? I just don't know. I don't like getting any vaccinations of any kind. I was put on the spot and the fear of something happening to my kidney stressed me out so I just said 'yes'.

That's understandable, Shabbychic! I'm just glad to hear that you didn't react in a bad way to it!! Unfortunately many of the members here over the years that I've been active here do react badly to the flu shot. It's still a personal decision best made between you and your doctor!

I got one too Shabby. I have a 5 month old baby at home, and would never forgive myself if I gave him the flu. I didn't want to get the shot either, but felt like I had a responsibility to. Can't really tell if I reacted to the shot, have good days and bad days anyway...

I don't ever get flu shots.
And I don't get the flu every year. And when I have, it has not been any worse than anyone else.
I should add that I work at several difference colleges and the flu goes through each year a couple of times per year and loads of people get sick. So I am around it a lot every year. I wash my hands religiously, don't touch my mouth or eyes, take lots of vitamin C, etc.
Inform yourself and then make the best choice for you! And like Trav says...a decision made between you and your doctor/health care people.

I don't get the flu shot either. It seems like a gamble to me. I rarely catch a cold or the flu or the stomach bug or anything, and I work with kids! Take away the Lyme, and I am as healthy as a horse

I just got mine on Friday! Very late this year but the last thing I need is to get knocked out by the flu!

Flu shots are not effective, per research.
More effective is making sure your Vitamin D status is good.
I will never get a flu shot (allergic to many, many additives, eggs, etc.).
So I take Oscillococcinum (homeopathic "flu remedy") - 1 capful once a week all throughout flu season...and have yet to ever get the flu while following this routine.
And the bonus is, sometimes my Lyme symptoms improve a little from the homeopathy, too!
Another trick is to take L-Lysine daily about
20 min. before breakfast...(ok to take it with other pills).
L-Lysine "looks" a lot like arginine, which viruses need to reproduce...so the virus sees the L-Lysine and takes it in, thinking it is arginine. But since it is Lysine instead, the virus can't reproduce, and then dies because the receptors are all plugged up with Lysine! Bye-bye virus!

No, no, no!! I'm 56, never in my life got a flu shot nor will I. I have researched the ingredients in these flu shots and they are not good...
