You are not odd man out, it has a lot more to do with your choice to "pick on Hansa", as you said. Why would someone intentionally stir up something like that? It doesn't matter. It will stop here. Had you left that thread alone, there wouldn't have been the uproar that we had. This is in no way helpful for anyone.

This forum is not the place to discuss abx vs herbal as if one had to choose one or the other. Many here use both and are having great successes.

Tacitus, you and I are opposite in our reactions to the different approaches, what worked for you, failed for me. What worked for me, failed for you - perfect example of my point. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another - we are all very unique and will need unique to us treatments.

Let's leave it at that and get on with the business of helping others.

My mom had it in the early 90's and did 6 weeks of IV (Rocephin I think) and has not had symptoms since.

A friend of mine was treated with IV Rocephin and has been symptom free for almost 2 years. Prior to treatment she was unable to function for a year due to total fatigue and wrongful diagnoses.

Wow! This is an interesting dialogue. Here's my 2 cents.

First, I'd like to add another person to the cured list. Katina Makris who wrote Out of the Woods. She happens to live in my state so I have had the good fortune of hearing her speak at a local book store, then read her book and follow her blog. I found her story very inspiring and found some hints that have helped me in my own journey.

My 2 cents is that the treatment of Lyme is very individual. Those of us with persistent infection that take a long time to heal often have some sort of factor that makes our Tx less straightforward (sensitivities to medicines, chemicals, molds or foods, pre-existing conditions such as autoimmune issues, been undiagnosed for a long time, etc., etc.) Therefore it is a matter of course that our treatments will have an individual flavor. That combined with the very real fact that the resources we can access to guide our healing are also different for many reasons (where we live, finances, etc.). Lyme more than probably any other illness requires being open to integrative approaches. For me personally I have found it to be essential to address the mind and spirit pathways of healing in additional to the physical. So my experience is that dealing with the physical side of the illness alone was not enough to set me on a path of healing. (I've combined antibiotics with herbals as well as complimentary treatments such as acupuncture, EFT and done a lot with nutrition). This has been essential for me but might not be for you.

The other question here is cure - my understanding from listening to several of the presenters from the most recent ILADS conference is that whether everyone with Lyme can be completely cured is still an open question. I heard that for some of us once antibiotics have maximized their results, some of us may need to be on herbals to maintain our highest functioning indefinitely or until there is a new treatment discovery.
