Weird mucus-like things...what is this??

Hi all,

I haven't been on for a while, I've been trying to sort things out, which has lead me nowhere, except back here for some friendly advice! :)

I've noticed that I'm producing these little, jelly-sac-like balls from my throat. I don't really cough them up, it's just like some weird congestion appearing from my throat. They are very small, a bit smaller than a pea. Idk how else to explain them, they are clear. I have chest pain/congestion on a very regular basis.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?? Lol! It's freaking me out...

To be honest I've had them for a few weeks, maybe even longer. I've just had SO many symptoms that only recently did I even think to worry about this one.

I never thought that something like that was connected to Lyme, but I guess it might be now!! I've had those things, and still get them whenever I'm dealing with some congestion - like now. I'm going through this right now as well, but never thought much about it! LOL! Goofy me!

The only thing that has helped me much is to use a type of decongestant called Guaifenesin. The brand that I buy (LOL! From a Dollar store!) has 400 mgs of Guaifenesin and 10 mgs of Phenylphrine. Most of the time when a product has the Guaifenesin in it, it has the word 'Mucus' on the package as well. This almost always helps when the congestion is not just in my sinuses, but in my throat and chest.

Traveler, it always comes back to Lyme I suppose! At least it's not something I should see another doctor for. Between my GP, my Rheumy, my oncologist, and soon to be LLMD, I think I have enough already! Lol!

Unfortunately I have a LOT of mediction sensitivities, and Guaifenesin is one of them. It makes my skin crawl, especially my scalp!

Do you notice this symptom when you're chest is congested? I also noticed some yellowish-green mucus last night. I'm dosing up on Emergen-c and hoping it clears up soon!

Well, dang!! Cause that works pretty well for me. I seem to get the chest congestion starting as I get those mucus thingies. I'm not really sure which one comes first.

Watch yourself carefully when you see that yellowish-green mucus. That's one of the first signs that it's turning from congestion to infection. Are your sinuses clogged? Is it just your chest? You need something to 'clear' that congestion before it has any more time to work up into an infection.

Go to a doc - it can be your GP for this and have them get you a script if you can't use the usual over the counter stuff. Keep up the Vitamin C though as well!

Please be sure to let us know how you are doing too! Don't want to hear you ended up in the hospital over this!!

Lymer, We must talk in person. I have it too. I usually cough up a hairball full 1st thing in the am. Sometimes blood tinged (TB neg). If you look carefully, they look like a srting of 8 folded in half. 4 on each side. Sort of like a Domino.

Hey!!!

I had these things going on! It is lyme. I was getting an MRI done on my brain to check how the lyme lesions were doing and one of the other things they found was that all 4 of my sinus cavities were full of mucus and inflammed. I forgot what they called it, maybe sinusitis. I would have to get out my papers. I was lucky to have that symptoms at the time of my MRI.

It is common with lyme because it is inflammation and mucous, something we have a lot of with lyme. It can become infected however and become a horrible sinus infection.

It can cause headaches, pressure (especially the sinuses), the jelly mucous balls, and post nasal drip. I find mine comes and goes.

However, I can't say that I ever saw them blood tinged

I used to have these gross things too. What finally got rid of them for me was doing a saline sinus rinse every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I use the neilmed 8 ounce squeeze bottle and premixed packets. I never liked the neti pot because every time I tipped my head, I ended up with wet, squeaky ears.

May I suggest that you folks try a sinus rinse and see if it works for you.

Thanks for that info, samjones! You did get lucky, it seems that each time I have a new symptom, by the time I get to a doctor, it disappears, usually only long enough to make me look crazy. Lol!

Traveler, it does seem to be mostly in my chest. I've had it off and on for months!! Don't worry, I avoid the ER at all costs these days. Lol! I usually leave feeling worse (as in I get treated like a nut case). I am learning ways to treat symptoms at home more and more everyday, mostly thanks to you guys! Of course, if anything gets too serious, I will reluctantly make my way to the hospital :)
