Hi everyone, I have been chasing down this mystery illness for years, recently a hospital doctor mentioned possible lyme, I had a test done through arup where I had band 23 present on igm but test was negative. I did another test through igenex which I just got the results from, on this test I was + on 41 and indeterminate on 39 on igm but overall negative, no band 23 present this time. These tests were 8 weeks apart. Any thoughts?

Lyme Disease is a clinical diagnosis. The blood tests are highly inaccurate and flawed. That being said, I believe band 23 is specific to LD, but someone else on here will probably be able to confirm that. IND on band 39 shows some exposure and band 39 is specific to LD. It's common for the test results to change like that for a number of complicated reasons.

If you have symptoms of lyme, have been evaluated for other possible causes with no answers, you probably have lyme disease. It needs to be a differential diagnosis.

I would recommend seeing a LLMD to be properly evaluated for it.

Oh, and as you can see by my screen name, I too had a mystery illness for a long time, LOL. I was diagnosed with lyme, babesia and bartonella in August 2012.

Thanks for the word. Symptom-wise I am textbook lyme and have been worked up for everything
under the sun. I live in northern california and have been an outdoorsman my entire life. Have
had about a dozen ticks in the last 20 years....Got a chuckle out of your screen name.

Similar story to most of us on here.

If you post a new post with "looking for LLMD in Northern California" in the subject line, you might get some response.

If you can afford to and are able to physically, it's worth it to travel to get to a really good LLMD. Many of us have to travel. Don't waste time and money seeing someone that doesn't have a lot of experience. It's a hard disease to treat, very complex. Most of the leading LLMDs seem to be on the East Coast, although hopefully there are some good drs. closer to you than that.

Yea thanks, there is actually a very good one right here in Chico, he isnt however taking on any new patients. I have met someone here who is being treated by him though and she is working on
getting him to take me on. My fingers are crossed.

IGenex for some reason misses band 23 often. They are the best for the Western blot overall though. Once you came up with band 23 positive you should have been diagnosed with Lyme especially with your tick history and symptoms. If you put 23 and 41 together you become CDC positive so you can look at it that way.

Ditto on needing an LLMD or LLND. They can accurately diagnose you.

It may take several tests put together. I had igenex and also blood sent to fry laboratories for a kind of photograph of blood which showed bartonella. It can be tricky, so need to see a lyme-literate professional.
