I can't recall where I read this but, I thought my fellow lymies would find this humorous...

While doing some online research re: lyme today, I ran across an article, or a blog or forum post that talked about how ironic it was that insurance companies would pay for long term oral antibiotics for someone with acne but, NOT for someone suffering through a debilitating case of lyme disease.

How ridiculous is that? lol

Very!! I remember reading that as well, and then I was completely outraged by it. So it's not so much that the strength of the abx that are required to treat these infections is the real concern then, is it? That's just some BS they feed us thinking it will work.

I have yet to see or read where a case of acne can be life threatening like these diseases are!! Yet it's okay for them to have those strong, long term abx but not us.

Go figure.

My thoughts exactly. :)

It was all I could to just shake my head in disbelief when I read that.

I'm not usually into conspiracy theories but, when insurance companies cover antibiotics for acne and not for lyme & coinfections.... that says a lot for the politics of this disease.

I can confirm this unquestionably.

As a teenager I had minor acne where the doctor prescribed tetracycline for 3-4 years. Im not kidding.... FOUR YEARS.

And to think I had to beg 3 Infectious disease doctors for anything more than 3 weeks while I was fully positive on over 16 bands with Lyme. I have heard rumors from experienced doctors who have basically said you can get any antibiotic you need for as long as you need, as long as you simply do not tell them its Lyme..

Abx do not cure acne nor chronic Lyme, so I tend to agree with not rx'ing long term abx for any condition.

If Lyme is caught in time, then yes, abx are the cure and abx need to be rx'ed for a longer period of time than is recommended in the lyme protocol.
Since there is no conclusive testing for Lyme, the medical associations cannot give out long term abx.

Long term abx are hurting us more than helping us since they are making bacteria resistant.

Everyone has to make their own decisions as to how they want to go about treating lyme + coinfections. For some, that treatment involves alternative therapies, for others it's antibiotics.

And bacterial resistance to antibiotics involves a lot more than just people who take antibiotics & the doc's who rx them.... it involves all of the antibiotics that are given to livestock for growth enhancement, which then ends up in the food we eat / drink after the meat is processed.
