I am a member of a local lyme support group. The following was just posted and I wanted to share it here. To read of this progress has brought me to tears. Please join me in praying that this change comes to be. For any fellow Canadians, please go online to sign the online petition that this is trying to push through. If desired, you can also collect manual signatures and mail in a petition of support. THANK YOU!!
Bill C- 442 UPDATE FROM NICOLE:
Hi everyone! My mum, Chris Powell and I have really good news. We've been in Ottawa for the past 2 weeks, meeting with MP's and Senators from all parties and regions of the country. We've been sharing my personal story with Lyme disease, and explaining the difficulties patients have with diagnosis, treatment and access to care, and the financial difficulties we all face, and doctor's discrimination of patients. ALL of the MP's and Senators have been overwhelmingly supportive, not just of Lyme patients, and the need for change, but also for Elizabeth May's National Lyme Disease Strategy Bill. Her private members bill was #111 on the list, but when the list was refreshed a few days ago, she jumped to #4. That means her bill will come up for second reading, and then debate after 3 more bills. Which means in the fall. FALL! As in when parliament comes and sits again after a summer break!!!! This is fantastic news! Several senators want to create their own private members bill about lyme disease in the Senate, and still others want to have an inquiry in the Senate. This would mean they would call expert witnesses, and patients and members of the Health authority potentially, and examine all the facts and make recommendations. The senate takes inquiries very seriously, as we saw when we sat in on the RCMP Harassment Committee hearings. We are so excited about the increased awareness on the hill about Lyme, and the willingness of members of both the Senate and House of Commons to help. Have you met with your MP? Or written to the Health Minister? These are two big things that would have a REAL impact on the state of Lyme Disease in our country. I know we all want things to change, and now this is becoming more and more of a reality. You MP will be in their riding this summer, so call up their office, and let them know you want to meet your MP to discuss your experience about Lyme Disease. I think you will be surprised and grateful for the compassionate response from these wonderful Members of Parliament, and be as excited as we were that they are so ready to help us out. Get out there, tell your story, share the facts...we're so close! ♥
