my husband has been diagnosed with bacterial prostatitis twice-I have had lyme disease twice and have been reading about mycroplasm bacteria being transmitted from a chronic lyme disease person via oral sex to cause this condition and wonder if anyone might have any info about this-there seems to be question as to whether or not prostatitis can be sexually transmitted from male to female and vice versa-I also have chronic bladder infections as well.

Welcome to our forum! I'm not familiar with bacterial prostatitis but lyme can cause a weakened immune system which would make one much more prone to infections like that as well as bladder infections as well.

I guess the question is how were you treated for lyme disease? Technically I was treated for lyme disease in 2007 with ten days of doxycycline. That was inadequate to treat this disease and it came roaring back years later. In between those years I did have a lot of UTI's as well. Something to take into consideration.

As far as sexual transmission it is certainly possible to transmit lyme similiar to how STD's are transferred. However there are no conclusive studies on this but I would tend to proceed with caution on that one.

Was your husband tested or treated for lyme when you were? I hope he is feeling better!

I have a chronic form of prostatitis which they now call Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. My main symptom is burning upon urination and has been for the last maybe 17 years. Your husband's prostatitis sounds like it's acute and not chronic so it's a little different than mine but it may not matter as far as cause goes.

Mine could be definitely be from Lyme as a few years prior I pulled a tick out of my arm and then was re-infected in 2011. I don't know for sure if it's related to my first tick bite but I am very suspicious. The current thinking with CPPS is that it's caused by tight muscles around the bladder and prostate. Well Lyme would and does cause muscle tightness.

Thanks for the info Beth-I live on the perimeter of a swamp with lots of deer thus the Lyme disease-I was diagnosed by sight both times-the tick was there and then the bullseye and rash-treated with erythromycin for thirty days-all my joints are a mess and both hips replaced by 50-I never had any followup tests after treatment but am told it is there forever! Thanks for the insight ToddPaul-my hubby is scheduled to see the urologist w/ a PSA of 5.0 so I am concerned-hope it is ok but will let you know after Feb-he is 60 so hopefully it is age related too. Hope you are doing well.

Bonzie, your reoccurring bladder infections could be coming from him because of the prostatitis.

I've had prostatititus just before my
Lyme diagnosis, and my doctor believes it was Lyme, not prostatitus. He should have a Western Blot done as long as he has been off abx for more than a month. Btw, that pain sucks
