I got a copy of my IgeneX test ... didn't hear from the doctor yet, I don't have a follow-up appointment until mid-January, so I guess he will go over it then.

In the meantime, I am curious...
For example -- what do the asterisks * mean???

Here are my results:

Igenex igm result positive
CDC/nys result positive

18 kDa ++
** 23-25 kDa -
28 kDa -
30 kDa -
** 31 kDa -
** 34 kDa -
** 39 kDa +
** 41 kDa +
45 kDa -
58 kDa +
66 kDa -
**83-93 kDa +

Igenex igg results = negative
cdc/nys result = negative

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just a note, I had both Quest (back in August 2013) and LabCorb (earlier this month) report back negative.

a lot of the ** look like they are species specific bands with the exception of 41 kDa. But I am unsure.

You are CDC positive for lyme for the IgM antibodies - these are produced initially and indicate an active infection.

Ack, I finally get in a club, and it's this one :( You all are great ... I just wish the club was for something else :)

The other part on the test shows this (even more confusing):

IFA, B Burgdorferi G/M/A = 40

<40 negative
40 equivocal
= or > 80 positive

not sure what this is

The Lyme IFA is a test that looks at the total number of all antibody bands for Lyme. This is the least likely of all Lyme tests to actually be positive when one has Lyme...so to get an "equivocal" on it is an accomplishment...

The ** bands on the IGeneX test are the bands that IGeneX considers to be more significant if positive, as they are Lyme or Borrelia specific (with the exception of band 41; band 41 can cross-react with other things).

A question I had last night while I was thinking about all of this, is --- as the infection goes away, do the IgG bands increase, while the IgM levels decrease?

Not sure if I am asking that correctly -- I guess in short what I am trying to figure out is if the IgG bands not being positive yet, but showing something on some bands, is that a sign that the infection is going away?

I think I am just trying to be hopeful, thinking that this will be a thing of the past soon. Right now I am not on any medicine, after the insurance flagged the azithromycin, even though the lyme dr. said it's okay to take it, I opted for waiting to get cleared by the cardiologist, which won't be done until I see him again (in January) -- in the meantime, I did contact his office to ask about the azithromycin being safe or if he'd recommend not taking it --- waiting to hear back.

Since I had a reaction to the doxycycline ... and now the azithromycin issue ---- is there an alternative left? Would minocycline alone be sufficient?

Retesting for these infections don't usually show improvements as they aren't accurate enough to track any progress accurately.

Depending on what kind of a reaction you had, those abx may have only cause a herx - which means they were working.

You could get started detoxing - carefully of course if you are waiting to be cleared by a Cardio doc. That will only help prepare your body for clearing the infection.
