Hi Almost Medfree!
Welcome over to the Lyme forum!!

The bands that everyone refers to on this forum are the bands that are on the Western Blot Lyme disease tests. It's just a name that's applied to a particular weight of an antigen.
Basically, when looking at a Western Blot, a researcher or lab worker will see a band showing that there is reactivity to a specific part of a bacteria.
In Lyme disease, there are several of these bands that are highly specific to the Lyme disease bacteria. If even one of these bands is present, it's like saying that you saw the "foot print" of the bacteria - it was definitely there.
Lyme disease testing is very complicated though, and most doc's don't know this. They only follow what they are told. If even one of those Lyme specific bands are present, the patient needs to have treatment since they have Lyme disease. Most doc's and the CDC require several bands to be present in order to call it a positive test result.
There is a bunch more that I can explain if you are interested.
I would suggest that you read through the "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread if you haven't yet. It's packed full of important information about
Lyme and the other infections that usually get passed at the same time, including symptom lists, detoxing instructions, helpful links and pdf's, and even a list of questions that you can ask any doctor that you are seeking treatment from.
