Hi guys. I want to know what symptoms of lyme disease that people with ms dont have. I do not know what I have yet but with my mysterious illness I have heart palpitations, chest pain and chronic cough. I know people with ms can get chest pain but not heart palpitations. also they cant get chronic cough. im not really sure. I am currently investigation if i have lyme. my blood is at igenex but its taking forever for results.

Did you test for co-infections? Those symptoms could be caused by Babesia.

Heart problems are much more commonly associated with lyme then MS. I've never heard of an MS patient having a chronic cough either. Regardless of the igenex results I think it is worth pursuing lyme treatment to see if their is an improvement or hallmark herxheimer rxn.

Are you sure herx is a hallmark rxn? I have been on amoxy almost 30 days now and no herx to my awareness. Severe yeast infection but no other severe symps. I am confused when people seem to say a herx should be expected, if one does not have a herx should we doubt we have lyme. I am so tired of all this, so tired of the battle, so confused, not sure what to do. Want to stop the amoxy but if have lyme afraid will make things worse if stop.

I am trying to differentiate symptoms from lyme and ms. Lyme: chronic cough, heart palpitations, breathing issues( i do not think ms people get that). what else do people with MS dont have and lymers do. Lyme people get skin rashes too dont they. from big ones too tiny little red spots. Weight gain lymers get. ummm ya

Hi Anonymous, I am glad you found us and I agree with LearnLyme.....getting tested through Igenex is a smart move. It will give you peace of mind, knowing which direction to go for treatment. Like MS, ALS is diagnosed through a series of tests. It was such a relief for my husband and family to know that there was a chance to save his life.
I also agree with LearnLyme regarding the causes of these so-called autoimmune diseases. Genetics may also play a role in a percentage of patients with ALS - not sure about MS, Parkinson's,etc.- but for the most part I also think they are caused by infections. I am also wondering if people diagnosed like my husband have strong immune systems. The reason I mention this is that Toby only got sick one time in our many years of marriage. My feeling is that his immune system is so strong it attacked with vengeance, leaving a lot of nerve damage to contend with. Lyme does cross the blood brain barrier so it makes sense.

Back when I had drs trying to diagnose me with MS, what I kept noticing was that I had a lot of symptoms that just weren't explained by having MS - things like low body temp, palps, frequent headaches, hearing issues, eye pain/vision issues, teeth clenching - boy! And so much more.

Are your symptoms better explained by Lyme disease with possible co-infections?

And remember - testing for any of these things leaves a lot to be desired still. I had to be on abx for 12 months before I had a positive Lyme disease result.

You were taking Methylpred.---a steroid for MS but that would suppress your immune system. What did that do to your Lyme disease? Just curious.....
