I just started minocycline and rifampin together. wow. talking about
sick as a dog after the first day. this must be a herx right? I could hardly get out of bed feel so bad. doing epsom salts baths and charcoal pills must be a bunch of toxins. also, coughing up stuff out of my lungs. can anyone relate?

I thought mucus was also a sign of herxing - I thought I had a cold this past weekend, bc I was sneezing, had a runny nose, stuffy nose, constantly clearing my throat, and then Monday it was all gone - herx?

I sneeze all the time, for the last 8 months.
My dr says it's because of inflammation, nothing to do about
it...

my LLMD says that when your body produces mucus, it is your immune system fighting the battle, and its a good sign.

If fever, coughing, and mucus can be a sign of herxing, could diarrhea also be from herxing? I was assuming it was the abx messing up the gut.

Let's not forget that in many parts of the country (at least in the US) the trees are starting to produce pollen, which many of us will react to.
Ksgirl - it depends on the severity of the diarrhea. If it's not bad and doesn't last too long, it could be most anything that has upset the balance. Serious, or severe diarrhea is something that should not be ignored - it could be from the abx or from a Candida infection or even something like C-Diff.
If you are coughing "stuff" up, check the color. If it's white or clear, you're usually good to go, although it's a pain to deal with. If it has a yellow color or a greenish tint, it's past time to see a doctor.
Mystery, considering the timing, it's likely a herx - although watch for other signs as well. Did you start on the full dose or did you only use a 1/2 dose? You may want to start off on a lower dose to allow your body time to play 'catch up' with the toxins that are being created.

And be careful with the herxing. If it is too much call your doctor. My dr only starts most people on one antibioitic at once so the herxing isn't quite as bad.
Hope you feel better soon!

thanks all. yes I may have to bump down on my dosages. I feel like i can breathe so much better since i started on these two drugs, minocycline and rifampin. I have read on line where minocycline helps inflammation is fat soluble gets into the brain well. I had these knots under my skin on my arms esp two on the lower part of one arm. would you believe they have gone down in size. one doctor told me they were lipomas. they are not lipomas. it must be from the lyme.
does anyone else have knots like this on your body? I have 2 on my back, and a bunch on my back.

Hi mystery1. I just did the minocycline + rifampin combo also just 2 months ago. For me, I didn't get any herx reaction out of it only that it made me feel tired after taking the drug and I had liver aches as well when I first started taking it.
I found that it did an excellent job of suppressing the infection. I found I had very few if any symptoms of the infection on the rifampin and I got to a plateau of feeling 70-80% better to my former self in just a week.
I wonder if anyone can say it has an effect on Lyme as well? In my experience it was working and suppressing the Lyme infection because my Lyme like symptoms went down but I was unsure if it was actually killing it, it seems like it was just making it quiet. It definitely got rid of my Bartonella symptoms though.
I know some LLMDs claim it treats the cyst form, I also know it gets into the cerebral spinal fluid well. But I am not able to find any literature that says it treats Lyme infections. One article says rifampin had no affect on Lyme. So I am just unsure if it works on Lyme. I know it works well on Bartonella and Mycoplasma though.

When I started minocycline I threw up within an hour and then felt very drunk the next day. It took my body another few days cause I quit taking it to get back to my norm. I guess we will revisit it at another time, maybe it killed off to much to fast or something.
Hope you feel better soon.
