Success story

Hi everyone,

It's been a while, but I'm back to share my good news. Seven weeks ago I gave birth to a gorgeous wee boy, who is happy and healthy - just like me! It's been a long journey towards health for me, but I have genuinely never felt better :o)

I'd been ill for a few years, with all the usual lyme symptoms - fatigue, migraine-like headaches, nerve pain, anxiety, memory loss, paranoia, chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness... you name it, I had it! As per the usual story, I had test after test come back clear and was eventually told that it was probably just work stress. But, in Nov 2010 I became exceptionally unwell and could barely move. I had lots more tests, and my GP eventually proposed lyme disease as a possability because I work outdoors. My bloods were sent away and I was told it would be a month to wait for the results but was put on Doxycycline for two weeks in the meantime. I was also referred to an infectious disease specialist but told it could take up to a couple of months to see her. I noticed an instant very slight improvement on the antibiotics so did my own research and went to see a private specialist. To cut a very long story short I was diagnosed with chronic lyme disease and prescribed long-term Doxycycline and then also Tinidazole when this was not enough. I was on the drugs for a year and a half - recommended by my consultant by luckily prescribed by my GP which meant they were free (no prescription charges in Scotland). I was so lucky to have such a supportive GP and a wonderful consultant, even though I did need to travel a good few hours to see him.

After 1 1/2 years on the antibiotics (having unsuccessfully tried stopping a couple of times previously) I managed to stop treatment. Since then I have increasingly felt wonderful, and all I have left is a little nerve pain which gets better all the time (nerves take up to a decade to heal sadly).

After a year of being well we decided to try for a baby and I was scared that I wouldn't be able to carry a child after years of being ill. So imagine my surprise when I got pregnant almost instantly. My pregnancy was fine, and there is no sign of lyme in me or my child. I finally got what I always hoped for. So, I wanted to spread my good news to show you all that there is light at the end of the tunnel. People do get well on just antibiotics alone, and it is just a matter of time and the right drug(s).

Thank you for sharing this! I can barely type as my eyes are blurry from tears. It's so helpful to hear the success stories, and know there truly is a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm mid-thirties and just met the love of my life after a first marriage that ended at age 30, and I want to have a child with him. But smack in the middle of this treatment, feeling as non-human as I do, that seems like the furthest thing from reality.

So...again...thanks for coming back and sharing with us 'newbies' to the Lyme forum and to the whole crazy roller-coaster of treatment. Things like this can help give us the courage to buckle back down and keep hope, even on the toughest days.
