I would think it all depends on your bacterial load.
We started with 1/4 tsp QD (35 drops 1x daily) which was fine. After a couple of weeks I increased our daughter to 1/4 tsp BID (2x daily) which resulted in a significant herx (but also led to her being clinically diagnosed with babesia, so I guess it was a good thing). I had no idea what these new symptoms were. For some reason our daughter is unable to handle dosing with CSA 3x daily. 2x is all she can handle.
We ended up decreasing to 10 drops BID and then a little later increased to 15 drops BID and have remained there since Dec of last year. Julie told me not to increase to a point where herxing occurs. That dosing with low doses over an extended period will be as helpful as really hitting it hard for a short period.
Our daughter is asymptomatic right now, so that's good enough for me.
Talking about Buhner's babesia protocol:
red root works very well for increasing blood flow to the extremities and the brain. We (my daughter and myself) are both using 5 drops TID of the WoodLandEssence tincture, and tingling in my extremities has resolved. I used to wake several times at night with my arms and hands feeling very dead and extremely painful. No more. My overall body temperature feels higher than it used to as well. I just feel warmer. Brain fog has cleared up as well. I find this to be a very good herb.
