This disease is a Money Pit. It literally sucks all life out of us, and all our money along with it.
I've been sick since I was bitten at age 4. Took over 100 doctors, and thousands of dollars to get diagnosed. Worked after college graduation for almost 3 years, but then was in so much pain I could no longer function once I got to work (car rides made the pain skyrocket in severity).
Applied for SSDI, was denied twice - they claimed I could work and that I did not have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI. Unfortunately, none of the doctors I had seen supported my illness - they all thought I was faking it (I wasn't - finally got confirmed that I had RSD/CRPS). I did not know I had Lyme then.
Got lucky with a wonderful Husband just before this, and he tried hard to provide for us financially. He was "downsized" last year and we've been limping along on credit cards and much less take-home pay even than we had when we were barely scraping by.
I'm really scared because we have no idea what will happen when his work contract ends next year. And he's got chronic illness too (not Lyme), so fulltime work for him isn't easy either.
The stress of financial problems from this disease alone is enough to kill us, never mind the actual disease...
