Ever since getting sick with lyme. I get one to two canker sores right before my period is coming. Additionally my mouth and tongue always hurt a bit. Is this a symptom ?

As I understand, canker sores come about from any combination of injury, virus, immune system problems, reaction to infection, hormone fluctuations, and I can't remember what else.

Looks like this is one of those things that will clear up when your Lyme disease is resolved. That's good news, isn't it?

Sounds like you have a viral or yeast infection and the hormonal change that happens when you have your period gives them the opportunity to become active. Nystatin as well as some probiotic strains should help.

Although mine were never in connection to my period - as far as I can tell, have been without one for too long - I have successfully used L-lysine to heal canker sores several times.

For me it takes working up to a dose of about 2,000 - 3,000 mgs a day and staying on that dose usually for a month or two, then tapering back off.

It might be worth a try for you.

Thanks everyone for your input! I was reading the getting started thread and I saw canker sores as a symptom. But I find it weird that mine only come with my menstrual. Just another annoyance to deal with.

I don't think I have a yeast infection but what kind of viral infections could cause this? I've been tested for many things they all come back negative.

It's the herpes virus that causes canker sores, which is why L-lysine works. It lowers the herpes virus load so the symptoms go away.

The most likely reason they appear during or just before the menstrual cycle is because of the extra amount of stress that your cycle puts on the body. This keeps the immune system from being able to keep all symptoms at bay, so symptoms increase.

Thank you traveler this makes a lot of sense! I have one more question for you a little off topic. My doctor has done two blood test on me this month. And both times my white blood cells come back high. I know that means that I'm fighting off an infection or something. This is also very scary to me. But could the Lyme be causing my white blood cells to be up?

My daughter showed me a video clip of white cells going after an invader, so I'd say that it could be your immune system working.

Vinegar gives me canker sores.

Yes, it's your immune system trying to mount up an attack on the Lyme - congrats! LOL! Remember, Lyme is still an infection so the white cell counts will go up when the immune system begins to recognize the Lyme bacteria - keep up the good work!!
