Success story !!
I came back because I just saw a story about
some famous model who's been treated for the past three years but still struggling with lyme. I wished I could let her know about
alternative ways to supplement our treatment.
I was diagnosed with lyme, was one of the "lucky" ones with the classic bulls eye rash, tested positive and also tested positive for erlichia (spelling?)...but didn't start heavy duty treatment right away as I was nursing my daughter and didn't want to stop. (I hadn't known how dangerous lyme would become or even that I had a possibility of infecting my daughter according to some).
Once I started antibiotics (at a point where I was no longer able to read/was having word retrieval problems and severe pain), the symptoms would go away. My doc would take me off the antibiotics and the symptoms would start again. This occurred for 3 years with multiple different antibiotic combinations, coupled with herbal sides of teasle, cat's claw etc... anything I thought might work.
Well, after 3 years, my lyme doc finally stopped taking insurance, and I thought to myself, there has to be another way, I'm going broke. :) Once in the doc's office another lymie patient mentioned something about
changing my diet to get well. My more mainstream doc had spoken about
this as well and said it seemed to help some feel better, but was someone pushed the antibiotics. I followed because when I was on them, I did feel better a lot of the time.
Well, I started with green smoothies which supposedly alkanize the body the same way that alkaceltzer gold stuff supposedly does for herxes. I felt a little better, but still much difficulties reading and terrible aches and pains. I then read about
getting rid of foods that cause inflammation in the body. That was a lot of milk products and grains... basically think the paleo diet.
As soon as I eliminated all gluten (and it takes awhile to learn where you can get sneak grains and gluten accidentally in your diet), I felt a billion times better. I could read again, I didn't have to pop tylenol every day for aches and pains. Two years later I still have to follow the grain free diet. I'm okay w/milk products (thank god) and drink home made kefir-- (probiotics) every day -- hoping my stomach might get built up enough that I can eat grains again with no problem.
I wonder if all the antibiotics got rid of the lyme but really screwed up my stomach lining or the good bacteria in my stomach... or if I still have lyme, but the lack of sugar and inflammatory foods in my diet just don't let it blossom the way it was...
I guess I'll never know...but there are success stories!!!!!!!!!!!
