Depression, anxiety and insomnia from antibiotics anyone?

Feeling not myself since I took Doryx (time released asked Doxy) since beginning of December.

These sound like very typical Herxheimer reaction symptoms. Are you detoxing angi?

Yes, angi, these sound like Herx reactions, like in your other thread. It is a normal reaction when you kill off bacteria. Make sure you are detoxing!

I was on doxy and flagil together, and the anxiety was unbearable. I slept only 3 hrs each night but was jittery awake the next day. It got better after a few months. So either my body got used to it , or I was herxing that long. I'm off ABX for 1 month now and feel a lot better. I actually get tired again.

Some others here had the same symptoms on abx.

I was antibiotics about a year ago, but I do remember becoming more anxious when on it...and when herxing from fungal.

Do you mean you got better after stopping the meds immediately, or after being on them for a few months?

Did you take any anti-anxiety meds or herbals at the same time?

I have methalation problems per 23andme and ABX make me miserable. I take abx breaks to clear my liver and toxic overload since detoxing does work well for me. So i am not a typical example.

At one point it took me 3-4 months of misery before I felt better.


I'm off all abx right now and feel less anziety.

I tried all the calming herbs and adrenal support - doesnt do much for me. Goggle these they might work for your anziety. Many here have used these, ther are many.

No RX anxiety meds besides abx. Beta blockers help my tremors, without adverse effects.

My son had major mental health issues while on doxy. It was impossible to know if what he experienced were Herxes or the medicine, but he got so bad, I took him off.

His LLMD would love to put him back on, but I really feel strongly that it isn't the best option for him.

Do a search on Doxy and anxiety or doxy and suicide and you will see what some other people experienced. My son is pre-teen and there seems to be anecdotal evidence that it is particularly adverse in the mental health arena for the young, male population.

Angi - So sorry I never saw this! He is doing much better mentally. I just wrote another post under the Chronic Tonic topic that tells how successful his healing process has been with Chronic Tonic. He is still on other antibiotics also, but I noticed tremendous improvement when we started CT. He gets a little anxious still but it is so minimal compared to what he was experiencing.

Still needs melatonin and benadryl for sleep though.
