Ammonia production is something that I have studied in depth as it was my issue originally. It can be produced in both the ornithine and transsulfuration pathways. That is why I advise a lower protein intake diet for people suffering from pathogen based diseases. Protein intake should be tailored due to activity level. Too much is bad, too little is bad. Without sufficient methionine intake, no one will get well. Your genetic predisposition plays a huge role in how much is too much.
Dry Fry believes that arginine is utilized by protozoans in their replication (which eventually leads to increased ammonia.) I don't feel that is the case. My studies show more of an arginine decrease due to an increase in ornithine decarboxylase and an increase in polyamine production. This is what causes our depletion of Mg, Zn, Ca, Se, Mn, Mb, Cu, etc. People who suffer from ammonia toxicity will usually have headaches, insomnia, and have dry mouths in the mornings from constant dehydration.
