Starting IV rocephin on Tuesday........

After taking oral abx for 6 months with NO improvement, my LLMD is starting me on IV rocephin this week. I have read old threads on this forum and elsewhere, but I'd like to hear from members who are currently on rocephin.

Any side effects? How long til you had noticeable improvement? Why did you decide to go the IV route? Anything else I should know?

I don't know much about IV Rocephin, but I know a lot about stress, Utahgal.

Stress is a terrible medicine to keep on taking! It has dreadful side effects, doesn't help anything and makes everything worse. It has never cured a thing. Get off that stuff.

Seriously, relax. Your doctor has prescribed this course of action because he feels it will help you. This is the cavalry on the way to get you out of the mess you are in. Accept the help and use it to your benefit.

Good luck. So many people have such great success with it. All of those I have heard never had it recur... that of course is a limited population, but I am always shocked by how many inthe 1980, 1990 eras had IV and never had a problem again - and eat anything they want!

I did one month of IV rocephin in September after 6 months of doxy with no results. I didn't like having the picc line put in. It was uncomfortable but once in I was fine with it. I did it in the morning as you are supposed to do it the same time every day. I felt the medication going into my bloodstream and felt really good for the the first time since I had gotten sick. A nurse came and did it for the first 3 days and then showed us how to do it and all went fine. Once a week they changed the dressing and took blood work. They were always concerned about c-diff and infection but I was fine. You can't get it wet and I was given a sleeve but still had to be careful. The infectious dr wanted me to have it again in Jan for 6-8 weeks but
I was denied by my insurance company. I didn't fight it. I wasn't on any other meds other than the rocephin so maybe that is why it didn't kick it out of me.......

I have made almost a full recovery with the IV - I'd say I am at about 95% recovered. I have had it in for about 7 months and it wast until month 4 that I really saw a change. No more brain fog, anxiety, twitching, etc. I am getting a little tired of it, but it doesn't bother me. Its more like I am ready to move on and be done with all abx, but I know I still have a little bit more to go.

If Lyme is your biggest problem, I think it will help a lot, I think it doesn't treat bartonella right? Anyway, there was a lot of talk about this years ago when I joined the forum and it seemed that many people did see improvement, but they were taking stuff to support the organs--I forget what they were taking and what organs they were trying to protect. Gallbladder or something else? Well, I was too sick back then, I can't remember. I don't see as many people taking it now as back then.

When I came back to the forum after a long absence, I forgot my password and I became Simela1. So I can't get to any of my old posts. Anyway, my insurance didn't pay for it, I've decided to keep the $8000 the hospital was trying to charge me to put in a picc line and continued orals instead. But my LLMD believed rocephin is the best option for Lyme. He had lyme and he starting treating towards the end of my treatment. He had a picc line in his arm and still seeing patients. So rest, have faith that it will heal you, don't stress over it and you will be ok. Looking forward to hear good news from you :) Since you didn't improve, I think you are doing the right thing to try new treatment options.

Simela is right. you definitely want to make sure you are doing stuff to protect the organs, specifically the gallbladder and liver. Antibiotics kill lyme & Co but they can have some serious side-effects.

My LLMD gave me actigall and I also take milk thistle.....and obviously probiotics.

Anything else I should do?

I suggest juicing daily, apple cider vinegar, oil pulling. Things that are good for your liver, gallbladder and body as a whole.

I also do Acupuncture and take a lot of herbs meant to protect. You should also stay away from fatty foods, i think that can cause gallbladder issues while on Rocephin.
